Foxhole Beginner Guide 2026 — How to Start, Logistics and Combat Basics
Foxhole is a persistent war MMO where every soldier, bullet, and tank is player-made. The front line does not move unless someone drives supplies there. Understanding this is the key to enjoying Foxhole — you are not the hero, you are one cog in a massive war machine.

Choosing Your Faction
| Faction | Theme | Vehicles | Playstyle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wardens | Blue, feudal aesthetic | Heavier armour, slower | Defensive, methodical |
| Collies (Colonials) | Green, utilitarian | Faster, lighter, more numerous | Aggressive, swarm tactics |
Faction choice matters for vehicle preferences but not for infantry gameplay. Pick whichever looks cooler. You can switch factions between wars (each war lasts 2-4 weeks).
The Golden Rule: Do Not Pull from Bases
Never pull supplies from a Forward Base unless you know what you are doing. Every rifle, magazine, and grenade in that base was manufactured by a player, transported by a player, and delivered by a player. Taking a full loadout and dying immediately wastes hours of someone’s work.
Standard infantry loadout (pull this once, make it last):
- 1 Rifle + 2 magazines
- 1 Bandage
- 1 Hammer (optional, for building)
That is it. You do not need a pistol, a secondary, 5 grenades, and a gas mask for basic infantry combat. Travel light, die less, waste less.
The Three Roles
Infantry (Frontline)
The simplest role. Grab a rifle, go to the front, shoot enemies.
- Stick with groups. Lone wolves die fast and achieve nothing.
- Use cover. Foxholes, trenches, craters. Standing in the open is suicide.
- Suppress, do not snipe. Foxhole’s gunplay is inaccurate by design. Volume of fire matters more than precision.
- Listen to voice chat. Veterans give orders. Follow them.
Logistics (Backline)
The most important role. Without logi, the front line starves.
Logi loop:
- Gather raw materials (scrap, components, sulphur) at a resource field
- Refine at a refinery into Basic Materials (BMats), Explosive Materials (EMats), and Refined Materials (RMats)
- Manufacture weapons, ammo, medical supplies, and vehicles at a Factory
- Load supplies into a truck and drive to the front line
- Submit supplies to a Forward Base or Storage Depot
New player recommendation: Do logi for your first 2-3 sessions. It teaches you the map, the economy, and why you should value every bullet.
Building/Engineering
Players build and maintain defensive structures — bunkers, trenches, and fortifications. Requires a Hammer and Basic Materials. Mid-level role; learn infantry and logi first.
Communication is Mandatory
Foxhole relies on voice chat and text chat. Key channels:
- Local (T) — Everyone nearby. Use for callouts and coordination.
- Squad (G) — Your squad only. Join a squad from the F1 menu.
- Region — Everyone in the current map region.
- World Chat — Global. Use sparingly, mostly for logistics coordination.
Always have a microphone. Text chat is too slow for combat callouts. Even just saying “enemy tank north side” can save a base.
The War Economy
Every war is won by logistics:
- Scrap → Basic Materials → Rifles, ammo, bandages, building materials
- Components → Refined Materials → Vehicles, heavy weapons
- Sulphur → Explosive Materials → Grenades, artillery shells, rockets
- Fuel → Drives tanks, trucks, and power plants
A single tank costs 150+ RMats, which requires roughly 30 minutes of component farming plus refining and manufacturing time. When you see a destroyed tank on the battlefield, you are looking at half an hour of someone’s work.
Summary
Start with logistics. Learn the supply chain. When you go to the front, take only what you need. Always use voice chat. Respect the economy — everything you use was made by another player. Join a regiment (clan) for organised operations.
