Windrose Oil Lamp Guide
If caves and night travel feel miserable in Windrose, the fix is the Oil Lamp. Current April 2026 guides agree on two important points: you can craft one, and you can also loot one early if you want the shortcut.
Oil Lamp Crafting Recipe
The current Workbench recipe is:
- 4 Copper Ingots
- 1 Rope
That means the real gate is copper production. If you do not have ingots yet, start with the Windrose Copper Ingot guide.
Early Free Oil Lamp Location
If you do not want to spend the ingots immediately, current guides point to an early lamp chest at the Pirate Remains northeast of your starting area.
The route:
- Head to the Pirate Remains near the tutorial island start.
- Find the shipwrecked boat.
- Loot the chest beside the skeleton.
That chest currently gives an Oil Lamp.
How to Refill an Empty Oil Lamp
Refilling is done at the Workbench, not out in the field.
Current refill cost:
- 3 Animal Fat
Best Animal Fat Sources
Current guides list:
- Sows: 1 Animal Fat
- Boars: 2 Animal Fat
Once you have the fat:
- Take the Empty Lamp and 3 Animal Fat to the Workbench.
- Open the Refill/Repair section.
- Confirm the refill.
When the Oil Lamp Is Worth Using
The lamp matters most for:
- Copper Deposit Caves
- dark ruins
- night exploration
You can use floor torches as a backup, but the Oil Lamp is the cleaner long-run solution because it stays part of your normal field kit.
Best Order for New Players
The smoothest route is:
- Get a lamp from the Pirate Remains chest if you can.
- Use it for ore caves and dark ruins.
- Craft your own later if you want a guaranteed replacement.
That saves early Copper Ingots for more urgent items like tools, bells, and workshop progression.
