RotMG Pet Guide 2026 — Best Pet Abilities and How to Max Fast

Your pet is the single most important progression system in Realm of the Mad God — it survives character death, provides passive healing, and dramatically increases your survivability. A maxed Legendary pet can turn a squishy class into a tank. Here is everything you need to know about pets in 2026.

How Pets Work

Pets are account-bound companions that follow your character. They provide passive abilities that trigger on a cooldown. Pets gain experience by feeding them items and can be fused to increase rarity.

Pet rarities:

RarityMax LevelAbility CapFuse Cost
Common301 ability, level 30
Uncommon502 abilities, level 502 Common (max level)
Rare703 abilities, level 702 Uncommon (max level)
Legendary903 abilities, level 902 Rare (max level)
Divine1003 abilities, level 1002 Legendary (max level)

Mandatory Pet Abilities

Pets can have up to three abilities, unlocked at each rarity tier. The first two are non-negotiable:

1. Heal (Must Be First or Second Slot)

Heal restores HP every few seconds. At max level (Divine 100/100), Heal 100 restores 90 HP every 2.5 seconds — effectively making you immune to chip damage. This is the single most impactful upgrade in RotMG.

Do not accept a pet without Heal as the first ability. If you hatch a pet with Heal in the second or third slot, it will take much longer to max.

2. Magic Heal (Must Be First or Second Slot)

Magic Heal restores MP. Combined with a high-level Heal, it gives you infinite sustain. At Divine 100/100, Magic Heal 100 restores 45 MP every 2.5 seconds. Most abilities cost 80-120 MP, meaning you can use them every 4-6 seconds instead of every 15-20 seconds.

3. Electric (Best Third Slot)

Electric deals damage to enemies near you. It paralyses enemies, making it the best crowd control ability. Alternatives like Savage (pet attacks) or Decoy (pet draws aggro) are weaker.

Ideal pet: Heal → Magic Heal → Electric

How to Get the Right Pet

  1. Hatch eggs dropped from gods and dungeons. Common eggs drop frequently.
  2. Check the pet’s first ability. If it is not Heal or Magic Heal, release it and hatch another.
  3. Once you have a pet with Heal/MHeal as the first ability, start feeding it.
  4. Hatch a second pet with the complementary ability (Heal if your first has MHeal, or vice versa).
  5. Max both to level 30 (Common cap), then fuse them into an Uncommon pet.

Feeding Strategy

Pets gain experience by consuming items from your inventory. Higher feed power (FP) items give more experience.

Best feed items:

ItemFeed PowerSource
Incubator items (eggs)100-500Godlands drops
Unwanted UTs (untiered items)200-800Dungeon bosses
Treasures300-500Events, mystery boxes
Stat pots50-100Godlands

Feeding efficiency:

  • Feed items with 400+ FP. Lower-FP items waste fame.
  • During Pet Food events, feed the highest-FP items you have (double experience).
  • The Pet Yard must be upgraded to support higher-rarity pets. Upgrade it with Fame and Gold.

Fame Cost to Max a Pet

Fame is the secondary currency used for pet upgrades and the Pet Yard. The total Fame required to max a Divine 100/100 pet is approximately 500,000-750,000 Fame — a grind measured in months or years.

Fame farming: Characters accumulate Fame as they survive. Dying converts earned experience to Fame. Use suicide characters (level to 20, die, repeat) for quick Fame.

Summary

Hatch eggs until you get Heal as the first ability. Get Magic Heal as the second ability. Electric for third. Feed 400+ FP items. Wait for Pet Food events for double EXP. Maxing a pet is a marathon — expect it to take months. The payoff is worth it: a Divine pet makes every class feel immortal.
