RotMG dungeons range from simple solo crawls to 85-player raid encounters. Entering the wrong dungeon at the wrong stat level is the fastest way to lose a character. This guide gives you the optimal dungeon progression path for 2026.

Dungeon Difficulty Tiers
| Tier | Stat Requirement | Death Risk | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner | 0/8 | Very Low | Pirate Cave, Forest Maze |
| Easy | 0-1/8 | Low | Spider Den, Hive, Forbidden Jungle |
| Medium | 2-4/8 | Moderate | Sprite World, Snake Pit, Undead Lair |
| Hard | 4-6/8 | High | Abyss of Demons, Tomb of the Ancients |
| Expert | 6-8/8 | Very High | Lost Halls, Nest, Fungal Cavern |
| Endgame | 8/8 + Gear | Extreme | Oryx Sanctuary, Shatters, Void |
Phase 1: Beginner Dungeons (0/8)
Start here to learn basic mechanics:
- Pirate Cave — The tutorial dungeon. Teaches movement and attacking. Drops nothing of value.
- Forest Maze — Teaches dodging. Slightly more complex bullet patterns. Drops the Leaf Bow (decent starter weapon).
- Spider Den — Introduces minion spawning. Queen Spider lays eggs that hatch. Kill eggs first, then boss. Drops Spider Eye Ring.
Goal: Complete each dungeon 3-5 times until you can do them without taking damage.
Phase 2: Easy Dungeons (1-2/8)
Once you have a few Defence and Speed pots:
- Hive — Bee-themed. Boss has a charge attack. Learn to circle-strafe. Drops Honey Circlet.
- Forbidden Jungle — Boss summons totems that must be destroyed. Multi-phase fight. Drops UT abilities.
- Snake Pit — Long corridor dungeon. Stheno (boss) fires shotgun bullets. Stay behind her. Drops Speed pots.
Phase 3: Mid-Game Dungeons (3-5/8)
These dungeons are where the game opens up:
- Sprite World — Fast-paced farming dungeon. Limon (boss) cycles through coloured phases that telegraph attacks. Blue = safe, Red = shotgun, Yellow = chase. Drops Dexterity pots and EP staff.
- Undead Lair — Skeleton-themed. Septavius (boss) has a confusing phase where he spawns minions in a spiral pattern. Stay calm and pick off minions. Drops Wisdom pots.
- Abyss of Demons — Fire-themed. Malphas (boss) summons fire walls. The hardest mid-game dungeon. Requires 5/8 minimum. Drops Defence and Vitality pots.
Phase 4: Hard Dungeons (6-8/8)
These require maxed Defence, good gear, and dungeon knowledge:
- Tomb of the Ancients — Three boss gauntlet (Bes, Nut, Geb). Each has unique mechanics. The final phase (all three active) is the hardest fight outside endgame. Drops Life and Mana pots.
- Ocean Trench — Underwater dungeon. Thessal (boss) summons whirlpools. High movement speed helps. Drops Mana pots.
- Parasite Chambers — Infection mechanics. Boss spawns parasites that must be killed before they reach you. Drops UT abilities.
Phase 5: Endgame Dungeons (8/8 + Maxed Gear)
Do not enter these unless fully prepared:
- Lost Halls — 65-player raid. Marathon dungeon with multiple boss gauntlets. Requires Discord voice coordination. The Cultist Hideout and Void are two separate end bosses.
- Oryx Sanctuary — The current hardest content. Oryx 3 (O3) is the most mechanically complex boss in RotMG. Expect to die many times while learning.
- Shatters — Revamped in recent updates. King boss with phases that escalate dramatically. High-end players only.
Surviving Your First Endgame Run
- Watch a guide video first. Know the boss phases before entering.
- Go in a big group. Safety in numbers. Focus on surviving, not DPS.
- Bring a Priest or Paladin. Self-healing gives you margin for error.
- Identify the dangerous phases. Most endgame bosses have one or two attacks that deal 90% of the lethal damage. Learn those first.
- Accept that you will die. Treat it as a learning experience. Your vault and pet are permanent.
Summary
Start with Pirate Cave and Spider Den. Progress to Sprite World at 3/8. Abyss of Demons at 5/8. Tomb of the Ancients at 7/8. Do not touch Lost Halls or Oryx Sanctuary until 8/8 with a maxed pet and strong gear. Watch guides before entering new dungeons.
