PSO2 New Genesis Beginner Guide 2026 — How to Start and Progress Fast

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is the open-field evolution of SEGA’s long-running action MMORPG. If you are jumping in for the first time — or returning after a break — the game throws a lot of systems at you fast. This guide gets you from character creation to endgame-ready with minimal friction.

Choosing Your First Class

NGS lets you switch classes freely once you unlock the Class Counter, so your starting choice is not permanent. Still, some classes are friendlier for beginners.

Hunter — Tanky, forgiving, solid damage. Best first class if you want to learn combat pacing without dying constantly.
Ranger — Ranged DPS with assault rifles and launchers. Good for learning boss patterns from a safe distance.
Force — Caster class. High damage but squishy. Pair with Hunter as a subclass for survivability.
Fighter — Melee DPS with twin daggers, knuckles, and double sabers. High skill ceiling, skip this as a first pick.
Braver — Katana and bow. Versatile and strong, good second class.
Bouncer — Jet boots and soaring blades. Mobile and flashy. Decent starter if you prefer aerial combat.
Waker — Summoner-style class. Pet-based combat, very safe. Excellent for solo players.

Recommendation: Start as Hunter or Ranger. Add Force as a subclass around level 15 for PP management.

Levelling Fast: Main Tasks and Side Tasks

Your primary progression comes from Main Tasks — these are the story quests that unlock new regions and raise your Battle Power (BP) floor.

Complete all Main Tasks in Aelio (the starting region). These reward large amounts of EXP, SG, and N-Meseta.
At level 15+, unlock Retem and Kvaris regions through the quest counter.
Run Combat Sectors (open-world combat zones) during PSE Burst windows. A full PSE Burst chain with a party can yield 3-5 levels in 20 minutes.
Yellow Triggers (battledia) give concentrated EXP for solo or party play.
Check the Limited-Time Task board in Central City daily for bonus EXP and materials.

Battle Power and Gear Progression

Battle Power is the gear score system that gates content. You need specific BP thresholds to enter higher-difficulty sectors.

Weapons: Prioritise upgrading a single weapon series (e.g., Cinquem, Koukloziat, or the current seasonal series). Multi-weapon at the Item Lab to combine two weapon types.
Armour (Units): Three slots — Arm, Body, Leg. Focus on the highest-rarity set available to you. Augment them with basic Might/Precision/Technique capsules first.

Potency Floor: Do not ignore this. A Potency Floor of at least 50% means your minimum damage is consistent. Augments like Alts Soul and Dread Keeper help here.

Meseta: How to Make Money

N-Meseta is the primary currency. You need it for augments, weapon upgrades, and cosmetics.

Daily Tasks — 100,000+ Meseta per day across all regions
Alpha Reactors — Collect these weekly from fixed spawns in each region. Sell stacks of 10 on the Personal Shop.
PSE Burst farming — High-level sectors drop valuable capsules and weapon camos
Personal Shop — Flip augment capsules. Buy low during events, sell high during content droughts
Seasonal Events — Always participate. Event-exclusive items appreciate in value after the event ends
