Neverwinter Boons Guide
Campaign Boons are passive stat bonuses you earn by completing tasks within Neverwinter’s campaign system. Each campaign has its own boon tree — a set of upgradeable passive bonuses unlocked by completing campaign tasks, earning campaign currency, and reaching milestones.
Boons are one of Neverwinter’s primary character progression systems outside of gear and class builds. At endgame, boons provide meaningful stat contributions across multiple campaigns.
How the Campaign System Works
Each campaign represents a major storyline or zone expansion (for example: Sharandar, Sea of Moving Ice, Ravenloft, Undermountain, Avernus, etc.). To unlock boons:
- Complete campaign quests and repeatable tasks to earn campaign currency (each campaign has its own)
- Spend currency at the campaign’s Task Board to unlock campaign tasks
- Completing tasks earns campaign progression points and may directly unlock boon tiers
- Once a boon tier is unlocked, you can purchase it using additional campaign currency or a combination of currencies
Some campaigns require completing a prerequisite questline before the boon system opens.
Boon Stats: What They Provide
The specific stats offered vary by campaign, but boons generally provide the following:
| Stat Category | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Power | Increases damage output |
| Critical Strike | Increases chance to critically hit |
| Awareness | Increases incoming damage resistance |
| Armor Penetration | Reduces target’s defense rating |
| Combat Advantage | Bonus damage when flanking enemies |
| HP / Hit Points | Larger health pool |
| Control Bonus | Improves crowd control duration |
| Control Resistance | Reduces enemy crowd control on you |
Boons in newer campaigns tend to be stronger per tier than those in older campaigns, reflecting power creep as new content releases.
Unlock Structure Within a Campaign
Most campaigns follow a similar structure:
- Tier 1 Boon: Available after completing a few campaign intro tasks
- Tier 2 Boon: Requires significantly more campaign currency
- Tier 3 / Final Boon: Often requires completing a large portion of the campaign story or reaching a reputation milestone
Each tier within a campaign gives you a choice between two or more options. Choose based on your class and build needs. A tank wants Awareness and HP; a DPS wants Power and Critical Strike.
Which Campaigns Have Boons
All major expansion campaigns include boons. Here are the key ones available as of the current game state:
- Sharandar (classic zone) — Early boons, foundational stats
- Underdark — Power and defense options
- Maze Engine — Combat Advantage and Offense
- The Cloaked Ascendancy — Resistance-focused
- Ravenloft (Barovia) — Strong offensive boons
- Undermountain (Dungeon of the Mad Mage) — Significant defensive and HP boons
- Avernus — Endgame boons; among the strongest passive bonuses
- Sharandar (Remastered) — Updated zone with modern boon stats
- The Northdark Reaches — Recent expansion boons
- The Wild Beyond — Current campaign boons
Older campaigns may have weaker boon stats due to power scaling over time, but are still worth completing to fill out all possible boons.
Prioritising Boon Completion
For new and returning players, prioritise completing:
- Current expansion campaign first — the newest boons are the strongest
- Avernus campaign — still highly relevant stat bonuses
- Undermountain — valuable defensive boons for survivability
For existing characters, revisit campaigns in order from most-recent to oldest to prioritise the strongest boons per time invested.
Boons Versus Gear
Boons are passive — they stack with everything else. They don’t replace gear optimization, but they’re permanent character improvements that carry across all content. Prioritise:
- Completing current campaign boons over farming older campaign currencies
- Choosing DPS boons (Power, Critical Strike) for offensive builds
- Choosing survival boons (Awareness, HP) for tanks or solo survivability
Tips for Efficient Campaign Progression
- Do daily tasks first — most campaign currencies are earned through daily quests, not random drops
- Focus on one campaign at a time — spreading efforts thin slows down all of them
- Seasonal bonuses — some events double campaign currency gain; check event schedule before grinding
- Skipping ahead isn’t possible — boon tiers are gated by campaign progression, not just currency
- Check boon requirements on the task board before spending currency on tasks that don’t lead directly to the next boon unlock
