Why Build a Trading Hall
| Benefit | Example |
|---|---|
| Infinite Mending books | Essential endgame enchantment |
| Diamond tools & armor | Buy instead of mine |
| Infinite emeralds | Trade crops, sticks, iron |
| Easy XP | Trading generates XP orbs |
| Golden carrots | Best food in the game (Master Farmer) |
Setting Up Your First Villagers
Getting Villagers
- Kidnap from village: Use a boat or minecart to move villagers. Break and place the boat/minecart to transport them.
- Breed your own: Trap 2 villagers in a room with 3+ beds and provide food (3 bread, 12 carrots, or 12 potatoes each). They’ll breed to create baby villagers.
- Cure zombie villagers: Splash weakness potion + golden apple on a zombie villager. Wait 3-5 minutes for curing. Cured villagers offer permanent discounts.
Trading Hall Design
Optimal Layout
Build individual 1×1 cells for each villager with their workstation in front. The player stands in a central corridor, interacting with each villager through a 1-block gap.
Cell design (per villager):
[Wall] [Villager] [Workstation]
↑ ↑
enclosed accessible from corridor
Use slabs or trapdoors to prevent villagers from escaping while allowing access to their workstation.
Best Villager Professions & Trades
Librarian (Lectern) — Priority #1
The most important profession. Reroll trades by breaking and replacing the lectern.
| Enchantment | Level | Price (after 1x cure) |
|---|---|---|
| Mending | I | 10-20 emeralds |
| Unbreaking III | III | 10-25 emeralds |
| Efficiency V | V | 15-30 emeralds |
| Protection IV | IV | 10-25 emeralds |
| Silk Touch | I | 10-25 emeralds |
| Fortune III | III | 15-30 emeralds |
| Sharpness V | V | 15-35 emeralds |
Reroll strategy: Place lectern → check first book trade. If not Mending/Unbreaking III/Efficiency V, break lectern and repeat. A villager without a workstation won’t lock its profession.
Farmer (Composter) — Emerald Source
Farmers buy crops and sell food. Best trades:
| Trade | Input | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Sell Pumpkins | 6 Pumpkins | 1 Emerald |
| Sell Melons | 4 Melons | 1 Emerald |
| Buy Golden Carrots | 3 Emeralds | 3 Golden Carrots |
Build an auto-pumpkin/melon farm to generate infinite emeralds.
Armorer (Blast Furnace)
At Expert level, sells enchanted diamond armor. At Master level, sells diamond chestplates and leggings with random enchantments.
Weaponsmith (Grindstone)
At Master level, sells enchanted diamond swords and axes.
Toolsmith (Smithing Table)
At Master level, sells enchanted diamond pickaxes, shovels, and hoes.
Cleric (Brewing Stand)
Buys rotten flesh (from your mob farm) for emeralds. Converts useless drops into currency.
Zombie Curing for Discounts
Curing a villager (zombification + cure) gives permanent discounts. Stack up to 5 cures for 1-emerald trades.
How to Cure
- Trap zombie near villager in a controlled area
- Let zombie infect villager (Hard difficulty = 100% infection rate)
- Splash weakness potion on zombie villager
- Feed golden apple
- Wait 3-5 minutes for cure
- Repeat for deeper discounts
Important: Curing discounts multiply. 5 cures = 1 emerald for most trades.
