1. Iron Farm (Priority #1)

Infinite iron for hoppers, minecarts, anvils, and tools.

How It Works

Iron Golems spawn when 3+ villagers are panicked by a zombie. The golem is funneled into lava where it dies, dropping iron. The iron is collected by hoppers.

Requirements

  • 3 villagers (at least 1 with a bed nearby)
  • 1 zombie (name-tagged to prevent despawning)
  • Line of sight between zombie and villagers (but blocked during day)
  • Water channels to funnel the iron golem
  • Lava blade to kill the golem
  • Hoppers + chest underneath for collection

Output

~300-400 iron ingots per hour. Build this before any major redstone project.

2. Villager Crop Farm (Easiest)

Auto-harvested crops using villager mechanics. A farmer villager harvests crops and another villager picks up the drops. A hopper minecart underneath collects them.

Setup

  • 9×9 farm plot centered on a water source
  • 1 farmer villager with a composter as job site
  • 1 collecting villager with hopper minecart track underneath
  • Fence enclosure to prevent escape

Output

Continuous supply of carrots, potatoes, and wheat for breeding, trading, and food.

3. Mob Grinder (Best XP Source)

Classic dark room spawner. Build a large dark platform high in the sky (Y=200+) with water channels pushing mobs to a drop chute. Mobs fall 22 blocks, leaving them at 1 HP for one-hit kills.

Requirements

  • 2 stacks of building blocks (cobblestone)
  • Water buckets (4-6)
  • Trapdoors (edge of spawning platforms)
  • Hopper + chest collection at bottom

Build Height

Build at Y=200+ to prevent mobs spawning in caves below. AFK at Y=180 for optimal rates. Light up all caves within 128 blocks.

Output

ResourcePer Hour (Approx.)
XP Orbs30 levels per 15 min
Bones2-3 stacks
Gunpowder1-2 stacks
String2-3 stacks
Rotten Flesh3-4 stacks (compost or trade)

4. Gold Farm (Nether)

Nether-only farm using Zombified Piglins. Build above the Nether roof (Y=128+) using magma blocks as a spawning platform. Piglins are angered by a turtle egg or by being hit with a snowball. They rush toward the bait and fall into a kill chamber.

Requirements

  • Access above Nether roof (ender pearl through bedrock ceiling)
  • Magma blocks (64+)
  • Turtle egg (for aggro)
  • Hoppers + chests + item sorter
  • Dropper/trident killer or fall damage

Output

Gold ingots, gold nuggets, rotten flesh, and occasional gold swords (smeltable). Also provides XP if using player kill method. ~4-6 stacks of gold per hour.

5. Sugarcane/Bamboo Farm

Observer-based automated farm. When sugarcane/bamboo grows to 3 blocks high, an observer detects the block change and fires a piston, breaking the second block. Items fall into a water stream into hoppers.

Setup

  • Alternating rows of observers, pistons, and sand
  • Water channel flowing into hopper + chest
  • Can be stacked vertically for higher rates

Output

Sugarcane for paper (trading with librarians for emeralds) and sugar (potions/cake). Bamboo for sticks (fuel and scaffolding). ~2 stacks per hour per module.

Efficient Farm Layout

When building farms, group them by dimension and chunk loading:

  • Overworld base: Iron farm, villager crop farm, sugarcane farm
  • Sky (Y=200+): Mob grinder
  • Nether (roof): Gold farm
  • End: Enderman XP farm (after dragon defeat)

Start with the iron farm — it enables all other automation (hoppers). Then build the mob grinder for XP. Add a gold farm once you’re comfortable with Nether gameplay.
