Throne & Liberty The Frozen Divide Nix Expansion: Everything You Need to Know
Last Verified: May 2026
The largest expansion to ever hit Throne & Liberty drops on June 25, 2026. The Frozen Divide: Nix introduces an entirely new frozen region, a brand-new weapon type, a higher level cap, two new co-op dungeons, a complete itemization rework, and a roadmap of major content arriving through July and August.
If you have been on the fence about returning to Throne & Liberty — or are an active player preparing for what is coming — here is the complete breakdown.
What Is Nix?
Nix is a massive frozen tundra region set far beyond the familiar lands of Solisium. The Red Fog has begun to spread across Nix, communication with the region has gone silent, and ancient ruins are stirring beneath the ice. Your role in The Frozen Divide is to investigate what is happening, oppose the dark plots of the Sylavean Order and the Arkeum Legion, and join the Resistance fighting to preserve Nix.
According to Amazon Game Studios, Nix is the largest region ever added to Throne and Liberty to date. The zone is built around exploration — glaciers, frozen relics, twisted space-time rifts, and buried civilizations all wait beneath the snow.
New Level Cap: 60
The current level cap increases from its previous tier to Level 60. As you level through the Nix Adventure Codex, you will unlock story progression, new gear, and access to the expansion’s endgame content.
New Weapon: Gauntlets
The headline addition is the Gauntlets — a heavy-hitting close-range weapon built for players who want to dominate the front lines in both PvE and PvP.
Gauntlets work as a Tank/DPS hybrid weapon through two distinct combat states:
Heavy Combat Stance
The default stance delivers devastating strikes driven by raw force and resilience. This is your bread-and-butter tanking mode — you absorb damage and dish out punishment through sheer brutality.
Aggressive Combat State
Switching to this state increases your mobility significantly and transforms the weapon itself: the blunt gauntlet surface shifts into deadly clawed extensions built for relentless attacks and rapid combos.
This dual-state design makes Gauntlets one of the most versatile melee options in the game. Frontline tanks will lean on the heavy stance, while DPS-focused builds will exploit the aggressive state’s mobility and burst potential.

New Traversal: Aethersuit and Auroral Path
Nix is a vertical zone with extreme heights and hidden valleys. Two new traversal mechanics let you navigate it properly:
- Aethersuit: Allows you to descend from extreme heights by gliding, covering massive horizontal distances while falling from elevated terrain.
- Auroral Path: Sky-riding mechanic that carries adventurers across the skies of Nix directly. Think of it as an aerial transit system connecting the major points of the frozen tundra.
These are significant additions to moment-to-moment exploration — the Aethersuit in particular changes how you approach elevated content and approaching enemies from above.
Two New Co-Op Dungeons
The Frozen Divide launches with two new co-op dungeons, set within Nix’s dangerous landscapes. Each offers new mechanics, new encounter designs, and strong rewards. In July (post-launch), both dungeons will also receive Dimensional Trials support (the game’s harder difficulty mode):
- Cursed Wasteland
- Frostbreath Cave
Itemization Rework
This is arguably the most impactful change for long-term players. The expansion includes a major overhaul to itemization systems — designed to give players greater control over how they pursue gear upgrades and progression paths.
Specific goals include:
- Expanded build customization options
- Making high-end rewards feel more meaningful when tackling difficult content
- Reducing friction across progression systems
- Improvements to the Path of Ascension system
The design philosophy here mirrors what Guild Wars 2 did when it shifted to a horizontal progression model — gearing should feel rewarding, not like a slot machine.
Housing and Lifestyle Updates
Housing and lifestyle content also receives improvements as part of the Nix launch. The exact changes have not been fully detailed yet, but Amazon Game Studios confirmed quality-of-life updates targeting lifestyle systems across the board.
The Frozen Divide Post-Launch Roadmap
The June 25 launch is only the beginning. Here is what Amazon Game Studios has confirmed is coming in the months following:
July 2026
- New Archboss encounter (new world boss type)
- New Archboss-related Codex story content and powerful Archboss gear rewards
- Dimensional Trials support for Cursed Wasteland and Frostbreath Cave
- An entirely new Battleground mode with new rules, new objectives, and a new battlefield map
August 2026
- A new Colossus encounter — described by the developers as “unlike anything seen before in Throne and Liberty”
- New Colossus-related Codex content and powerful exclusive rewards
- Improvements to Castle Siege mechanics
- Updates to the Tax Delivery event experience
The August Colossus encounter is the one generating the most discussion in the community. The official announcement specifically highlighted it as a new type of challenge for the game.
Pre-Launch Deep Dive Schedule
Amazon Game Studios is releasing preview content in the weeks before launch:
- Week of May 25: Deep dive into the Nix territory, preview of new Colossus threat and powerful bosses in Nix
- Week of June 1: Preview of PvP content arriving in Nix
- Week of June 8: Deep dive into the Gauntlets weapon
- Week of June 15: Comprehensive showcase of all content arriving with The Frozen Divide: Nix

Should You Come Back for Nix?
If you stopped playing Throne & Liberty during the mid-2025 content drought, the Nix expansion is the most compelling reason yet to return. The combination of a new region, a genuinely new weapon with a unique dual-stance mechanic, and the post-launch roadmap through August makes this the game’s biggest content push since launch.
For players already active, Gauntlets will shake up the frontline meta significantly. Expect the siege and archboss meta to shift dramatically once top guilds start optimizing Gauntlet builds alongside the new itemization options.
