Is Monster Hunter Wilds an MMO? The 16-Player Siege Explained
Monster Hunter Wilds is blurring the lines. While not a traditional MMO, the new “Hub World” updates have pushed it closer to Destiny style multiplayer.
The Persistent Hub
The new Gathering Hub holds 100 players.
- You can see players crafting, arm-wrestling, and strutting fashion sets.
- Global chat is active and region-locked.
The 16-Player Siege: Zorah Magdaros Returns
The endgame loop currently revolves around the “Siege of the Volcano”.
- Format: 4 groups of 4 Hunters.
- Phase 1: Groups split up to destroy cooling vents on the monster’s back.
- Phase 2: All 16 players fight on the barrier wall, using cannons and binders.
- MMO Mechanics: There are DPS checks. If you fail to break the magma core in 3 minutes, the raid wipes.
Interaction
Players can trade consumables (Potions, traps) but not gear. The “SOS Flare” system now allows you to filter for “Farming” or “Progression” lobbies.
For MMO players waiting for the next big thing, Wilds offers that raid-boss itch scratcher with AAA combat fidelity.
