LOTRO VIP Subscription Price Increase 2026: New Rates, Grace Period, and What You Need to Know

Lord of the Rings Online is raising its multi-month VIP subscription prices for the first time in the game’s history — nearly 19 years after launch in 2007. Standing Stone Games announced the change on May 29, 2026, citing rising business costs. Here’s a breakdown of the new rates and how to avoid paying them until the end of 2027.

New VIP Subscription Prices

The single-month subscription remains unchanged at $14.99/month. The price hikes apply to multi-month bundles:

PlanOld Monthly RateNew Monthly RateChange
3-Month$9.99$13.99+40%
6-Month$9.99$12.99+30%
12-Month$8.33$11.99+43%

These are significant jumps, particularly on the 3-month and 12-month bundles. However, SSG is offering a meaningful grace period for existing subscribers.

The Grandfathering Grace Period

Any subscription plan active by June 30, 2026 will be locked in at the old rates through the end of 2027.

This means if you subscribe or renew your multi-month VIP before June 30th, you keep the current pricing for more than a year. If you’re already subscribed and your plan auto-renews before that date, you’re also covered. This is a genuine opportunity to save money if you’re a regular LOTRO player.

Other LOTRO Updates Alongside the Announcement

SSG packaged the pricing news with several other updates:

  • 18th Legendary Items reward track activates on June 3rd — grab your 17th track rewards before then.
  • Angmar and Mordor progression servers will have their level caps raised to 105 on June 3rd as well.
  • The Throne of the Dread Terror raid unlocks on June 11th on those servers.
  • SSG plans to appear at Gen Con in Indianapolis on July 31st.

Should You Lock In the Old Rate?

If you play LOTRO regularly and were already subscribing, the answer is straightforward: renew before June 30th and you’ll save a meaningful amount over 2026 and 2027 combined. The 12-month plan going from the equivalent of ~$100/year to ~$144/year is a $44 annual difference — or two months of the new single-month sub price.

For returning players considering re-subscribing, the same logic applies. The June 30th deadline is the line in the sand.

Summary

LOTRO’s first-ever subscription price increase after 19 years is significant but expected. The grace period through 2027 for subscribers who lock in before June 30, 2026 is generous and worth acting on. The single-month rate at $14.99 remains unchanged.
