EverQuest Progression Server Guide 2026 — Best TLP to Join Now
Time-Locked Progression (TLP) servers are EverQuest’s most popular server type. They start at the original 1999 release and unlock expansions on a schedule — recreating the classic EQ experience with modern quality-of-life features. Here is what every TLP player needs to know in 2026.
Note: Verified as of July 2026. Check official patch notes for updates.
If you’re looking for EverQuest, or EverQuest guide, or Best TLP to Join Now, you’re in the right place.
How TLP Servers Work
Each TLP server starts with only the original EverQuest zones and content. Every 8-12 weeks (varies by server), the next expansion unlocks. Players vote on whether to unlock early or wait. The server eventually catches up to the current live expansion.
TLP servers include modern features that did not exist in 1999:
- Mercenaries (on most servers, unlocked at specific expansions)
- Defiant gear (on most servers)
- Modern UI, maps, and quality-of-life features
- Pick zones (overflow instances of popular zones)
Current TLP Servers (Mid 2026)
| Server | Expansion | Era | Ruleset | Population |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yelinak | The Serpent’s Spine | Level 75 cap | Standard TLP | High |
| Oakwynd | Depths of Darkhollow | Level 70 cap | Encounter-locking | High |
| Aradune | Seeds of Destruction | Level 85 cap | True box (1 per PC) | Medium |
| Rizlona | Underfoot | Level 85 cap | Box-friendly | Low |
| Mischief | The Burning Lands | Level 110 cap | Free trade, random loot | Very High |
| Thornblade | The Burning Lands | Level 110 cap | Free trade, random loot | High |
Best TLP for New Players
Mischief (Recommended)
The most popular TLP server by far. Free trade means almost all items are tradable — you can buy raid gear on the Bazaar. Random loot means rare mobs can drop items from other rare mobs in the same tier. This creates a vibrant economy and makes gearing up much faster than traditional TLP servers.
Downside: Mischief is already at level 110, so the “classic” experience is long gone. But for actually playing and enjoying the game, Mischief is unmatched.
Yelinak (For Classic Experience)
If you want something closer to the original EQ experience, Yelinak is at Serpent’s Spine (level 75). The expansion is new enough to feel modern but old enough to feel nostalgic.
Oakwynd (For Challenge)
Encounter-locking means once a player or group engages a mob, it is locked to them — no kill-stealing, no training. This eliminates the most common griefing behaviours and makes the server much more pleasant.
Getting Started on a TLP
- Roll a Mage or Necromancer — These classes dominate TLP soloing. Gear requirements are minimal since pets do the heavy lifting.
- Find a guild — TLP servers are guild-centric. Use /general chat or the EverQuest Discord to find a leveling guild.
- Level in popular zones — Crescent Reach (1-20), Blightfire Moors (20-35), Goru`kar Mesa (35-50), The Hole (50-60).
- Do not rush — TLP servers move at their own pace. Enjoy the journey. The next expansion will unlock whether you are ready or not.
Krono Economy
Krono are the TLP economy’s lifeblood. One Krono = one month of game time = approximately 2 million platinum (server-dependent). Krono prices inflate as the server ages.
- Earn Krono by farming rare drops, crafting in-demand items, or trading.
- Spend Krono on gear upgrades, twink items for alts, or game time.
- Never buy Krono from third-party sites. Only from the in-game marketplace or verified traders.
Summary
New to TLP: play on Mischief. Want classic: play on Yelinak. Want no griefing: Oakwynd. Roll a Mage or Necro. Join a guild. Learn the Krono economy. Enjoy the slow burn.
