EverQuest AA Guide 2026 — Best Alternate Advancement Points for Every Class
Alternate Advancement (AA) points are EverQuest’s secondary progression system. They unlock new abilities, passive stat boosts, and class-defining mechanics. Managing your AAs correctly is the difference between a weak character and a powerful one. This guide covers everything you need to know about AAs in 2026.
Note: Verified as of July 2026. Check official patch notes for updates.
If you’re looking for Complete EverQuest Alternate Advancement (AA) guide, or Best AAs to buy first for DPS, tank, healer, and caster classes, or AA farming strategies and auto-grant, you’re in the right place.
How AAs Work
You earn AA experience instead of regular experience by setting your AA slider (in the AA window) to a percentage. At 100%, all experience goes to AAs. At 50%, it splits between levels and AAs.
- AA points unlock ranks in abilities, capped by your level
- Each rank costs progressively more AAs
- Some AAs have level prerequisites
- Auto-Grant gives you all AAs from previous expansions for free (up to a certain expansion)
Auto-Grant: Your Best Friend
Live servers have the Auto-Grant feature. When enabled (recommended), it automatically gives you every AA up to the House of Thule expansion (level 90 era). This is thousands of free AAs.
Do not disable Auto-Grant. There is no benefit to manually grinding old AAs. You earn current AAs faster with the baseline power Auto-Grant provides.
AA Priority for Every Class
Tanks (Warrior, Shadowknight, Paladin)
- Combat Stability / Combat Agility — Flat mitigation and avoidance. Best tank AAs.
- Shield Block — % chance to block attacks
- Defensive Proficiency — % mitigation increase
- General Sturminess — HP increase
- Class-specific defensive AAs — varies by class
Melee DPS (Monk, Rogue, Berserker, Ranger, Beastlord)
- Combat Fury — Crit chance increase
- Veteran’s Wrath — Crit damage multiplier
- Burst of Power — Triple attack chance
- Weapon Affinity — Proc rate increase
- Class-specific DPS AAs
Casters (Mage, Necromancer, Wizard, Enchanter)
- Spell Casting Fury — Spell crit chance
- Destructive Fury — Spell crit damage
- Spell Casting Reinforcement — Buff/debuff duration
- Companion’s Blessing (pet classes) — Pet survivability
- Class-specific nuke/DoT AAs
Healers (Cleric, Druid, Shaman)
- Healing Adept / Healing Gift — Healing amount and crit chance
- Spell Casting Reinforcement — Buff duration
- Radiant Cure — Cure multiple debuffs at once
- Divine Arbitration — Emergency group heal
- Class-specific healing AAs
AA Farming Strategies
Mass Killing (Best for high-level characters)
Go to zones where mobs are light blue/blue con (within 5 levels of you). One-shot everything. Volume of kills matters more than EXP per kill.
- Melee: The Plane of Fire (C2 area) — massive mob density
- Casters: Veksar (old world zone) — everything dies to one nuke
Overseer System (Passive)
The Overseer window lets you send agents on passive missions that reward AA experience. Check it once per day. Free AAs for zero effort.
Daily Quests
Franklin Teek’s Hot Zone dailies give AA experience alongside regular EXP. Complete these every day while leveling.
Lesson of the Devoted
Veteran reward. Double EXP (including AA) for 30 minutes, once every 20 hours. Use it before a dedicated AA grinding session.
How Many AAs Do You Need?
| Content Level | Recommended AAs | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Leveling 1-85 | 0 (Auto-Grant) | Auto-Grant handles everything |
| 85-100 | 500-1,000 | Start buying current-expansion AAs |
| 100-115 | 2,000-4,000 | Enough for all critical AAs |
| 115-125 | 5,000-8,000 | Most class-defining AAs maxed |
| Hardcore raiding | 15,000+ | Every AA that benefits your role |
Summary
Enable Auto-Grant on Live servers. For tanks: Combat Stability first. For melee DPS: Combat Fury. For casters: Spell Casting Fury. For healers: Healing Adept. Use Lesson of the Devoted before dedicated grinding sessions. Check Overseer daily for passive AA income.
