EverQuest Best Solo Classes Tier List 2026 — Top Picks for Solo Play

EverQuest was originally designed for group play, but modern quality-of-life features — mercenaries, defiant gear, and out-of-era power — make soloing viable for most classes. Some are still vastly better than others. This tier list ranks every class for solo/molo play in 2026.

Note: Verified as of July 2026. Check official patch notes for updates.

If you’re looking for Complete EverQuest solo class tier list for 2026, or Ranking every class for solo leveling, farming, and moloing (solo + merc), you’re in the right place.

S-Tier — Solo Gods

Mage

The undisputed king of solo. Earth pet holds aggro better than some player tanks. Air pet DPS is competitive with actual DPS classes. Mage nukes are strong and mana-efficient. With a healer merc, a Mage can solo current-expansion named mobs. The only weakness is a reliance on the pet — if it dies, you are in trouble.

Necromancer

The safest solo class. Feign Death resets any bad pull. DoTs kill while you med. Pet adds extra damage and can offtank if needed. Necros kill slower than Mages but have zero downtime and unmatched survival. With a healer merc, a Necro is essentially immortal.

Shadowknight

Tank with lifetaps, feign death, and respectable damage. An SK with a healer merc can solo content that pet classes cannot due to superior mitigation and self-healing. Slower kills than Mage/Necro but higher potential difficulty ceiling.

A-Tier — Strong Soloers

Beastlord

Pet class with melee damage. Beastlord pets are decent off-tanks, and the player character DPS is higher than Mage/Necro personal DPS. With a healer merc, smooth soloing. Weaker than Mage/Necro because the pet is less durable.

Paladin

Self-healing tank with stuns and undead bonus damage. Very safe. Slower kills than SK due to lower DPS, but better self-sustain. Excellent for relaxed solo play.

Ranger

Ranged DPS with headshot (massive damage to humanoid mobs below a level threshold) and tracking (find rare spawns). Rangers are the best farmers in the game for specific drops. Squishier than tanks but faster kills.

B-Tier — Viable with Effort

Shaman

Buff yourself to the moon and DoT enemies to death. Slow (the spell) makes hard-hitting mobs manageable. Very gear-dependent. With a tank merc, Shaman soloing is slow but steady.

Druid

Jack of all trades. Snare, DoT, nuke, heal, teleport. Druids can solo, but they work harder than S/A-tier classes. Excellent for farming in outdoor zones (kiting with snare).

Monk

Pulling specialist with feign death and good DPS. With a healer merc, monks solo well. Without a merc, they are fragile. Mend (self-heal) helps, but the cooldown is long.

Enchanter

Charm soloing is the highest-risk, highest-reward playstyle in EQ. Charm a pet, buff it, and send it at enemies. When charm breaks, you die instantly. Experienced Enchanters can solo current content. New Enchanters die constantly.

C-Tier — Group Only

Warrior / Cleric / Rogue / Wizard / Bard / Berserker

These classes are designed for group play. They can technically solo with a merc at low levels, but the experience is miserable compared to S/A-tier classes. Play these if you have a regular group, not if you primarily solo.

Best Moloing (Solo + Merc) Combos

Your ClassBest MercWhy
Mage / Necro / BLHealerPet tanks, merc heals, you kill
SK / PaladinHealerYou tank, merc heals, both DPS
Ranger / MonkHealerYou DPS, merc keeps you alive
Shaman / DruidTankMerc tanks, you buff/heal/DoT
EnchanterHealerYou charm, merc keeps you alive through breaks

Summary

Play Mage for the best solo experience. Necro for the safest. Shadowknight if you want to tank. Avoid pure group classes (Warrior, Cleric, Rogue) unless you have a dedicated group. Always use a merc that complements your class.
