Housing Basics
Every character can own multiple homes. Your first home is free (a basic inn room in your starting city). Additional homes cost status points and gold/platinum to purchase and require weekly upkeep.
Home types:
- Inn Rooms — Small, cheap. Good starter homes. Available in every city.
- Standard Houses — Medium-sized. Require guild level and status to purchase.
- Prestige Homes — Massive, themed homes. Often from expansions, events, or the cash shop. No upkeep cost!

Housing Amenities
Amenities are functional items you place in your home that provide gameplay benefits:
| Amenity | Effect |
|---|---|
| Guild Hall Amenities | Access guild hall services from your home |
| Travel Globes | Teleport to major cities and zones |
| Tradeskill Stations | Craft at home instead of in the city |
| Broker Board | Access the auction house from home |
| Mailbox | Send and receive mail |
| Banker | Access your bank |
| Deity Altars | Pray for blessings |
A well-equipped home can completely replace the need to visit cities.
Decorating Tips
- Layout Editor: Download the community-made EQ2 Layout Editor. It lets you place items precisely, rotate on any axis, and save/load layouts. Essential for serious decorating.
- Scale items: Hold Shift + mouse wheel to scale most furniture items up or down.
- Fake walls: Use bookshelves or paintings as wall panels to divide large rooms.
- Lighting: Place invisible light sources behind furniture for ambient glow.
- Visit other homes: The Housing Leaderboard shows top-rated homes. Tour them for inspiration.
- Carpenter profession: Roll a Carpenter alt to craft your own furniture instead of buying it.
Housing and Character Power
Housing indirectly boosts character power through:
- Tradeskill stations at home = faster crafting = more platinum
- Deity altars for blessings (temporary stat buffs)
- Gate/teleport items for faster travel between content
- Buff items (some furniture gives temporary stat bonuses when clicked)
A well-placed portal to your guild hall or raid zone saves 5-10 minutes of travel per session.
Summary
Get your free inn room at level 1. Upgrade to a prestige home when you can afford one. Equip your home with amenities (portal, broker, crafting stations). Use the Layout Editor for precise decorating. Tour leaderboard homes for inspiration.
