EverQuest II Best Solo Classes Tier List 2026 — Top Picks for Solo Play
Soloing is the default experience for most EverQuest II players between group sessions. Some classes breeze through heroic content alone; others struggle against even-level solo mobs. This tier list ranks every EQ2 class for solo play as of 2026.

S-Tier — Can Solo Heroic Dungeons
Necromancer
The uncontested king of solo play. Your tank pet holds aggro, your DPS pet melts enemies, and your lifetaps and feign death handle any emergency. A well-geared Necromancer can solo current-expansion heroic dungeons. Add a healer merc for even more safety, or a DPS merc for speed.
Beastlord
Pet class with high personal DPS. Beastlord pets are weaker than Necromancer pets, but the player character deals significantly more damage. Excellent solo speed. With a healer merc, Beastlord handles any solo and most heroic content.
Conjuror
Pet class with the strongest tank pet in the game. The Earth pet holds aggro better than some player tanks. Conjuror personal DPS is lower than Necromancer, but the pet survivability is higher. Pair with a DPS merc.
A-Tier — Strong Soloers
Paladin
Self-healing tank with strong AoE. Immortal in solo content. DPS is lower than pet classes, so fights take longer — but you will never die. Bring a DPS merc to compensate.
Shadowknight
Like Paladin but trades healing for lifetaps and higher damage. Slightly riskier but faster clears. Better for players who want a more active playstyle.
Fury
Druid healer with surprisingly strong DPS. Fury can heal through any solo content while dishing out respectable damage. The best solo healer. Pair with a tank merc for a two-man team.
Ranger
Ranged DPS with kiting capability. Rangers can kill enemies before they close to melee range. Squishy if caught, but high damage output means most fights end before you take significant hits.
B-Tier — Solid, Requires Effort
Monk / Bruiser
Leather tanks with good DPS and feign death. Can handle most solo content but struggle against heroics without strong gear.
Warlock / Wizard
Glass cannon casters. Insane damage but one bad pull means death. Requires careful pulling and root management. Viable with a strong tank merc.
Mystic / Defiler
Shaman healers with wards. Nearly unkillable but fights take forever. Bring a DPS merc and accept the slower pace.
C-Tier — Do Not Solo
Guardian / Berserker
Pure tanks with minimal self-healing and low damage. You will not die, but a single trash mob will take 2 minutes. Only play these if you exclusively group.
Templar / Inquisitor
Pure healers with negligible DPS. Pair with a DPS merc and prepare for slow, safe fights. Better suited for group play.
Dirge / Troubador
Bard support classes. Excellent in groups, terrible solo. Buffing your merc is not enough to compensate for low personal DPS.
Brigand / Swashbuckler
Melee DPS with positional requirements. Solo play makes it hard to land backstabs. Frustrating without a tank merc.
Best Mercenary Pairings
| Class | Best Merc | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pet classes (Necro, Conjy, BL) | Healer (Kenny) | Pet tanks, you DPS, merc heals |
| Tanks (Pal, SK) | DPS (Varlos) | You tank, merc kills |
| Healers (Fury) | Tank (Varlos) | Merc tanks, you heal and DPS |
| DPS (Ranger, Wiz) | Tank or Healer | Depends on your gear |
Summary
Play Necromancer or Beastlord for the best solo experience. Bring a healer merc if you already have a pet, or a tank merc if you are a healer. Avoid pure tanks and bards for solo play unless you are masochistic.
