Albion Online Guild Warfare Guide: How ZvZ, Territory Control, and Season Points Work
Albion Online is a guild-first game. Solo players can farm, craft, and do Arenas, but the core loop โ territory control, mass PvP, and seasonal rankings โ belongs to guilds. This guide explains how guild warfare works, from ZvZ fundamentals to season point optimization.

ZvZ: The Core of Guild Warfare
ZvZ (Zerg vs Zerg) is mass-scale PvP. Two guilds show up with 20-100+ players each and fight until one side wipes. ZvZ is not about individual skill โ itโs about coordination, composition, and shot-calling.
ZvZ Roles
Every ZvZ player fills a specific role. Showing up with random gear is how you lose.
| Role | Weapon Types | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Main Tank | Mace, Hammer, Heavy Mace | Engage first. Soak damage. Control enemy movement with CC. |
| Support/Healer | Holy Staff, Nature Staff | Keep tanks alive. Cleanse debuffs. Resurrection. |
| Ranged DPS | Frost Staff, Fire Staff, Crossbow | Area damage behind the tank line. Focus-fire called targets. |
| Melee DPS / Bruiser | Axe, Sword, Spear | Follow the tankโs engage. Kill enemy healers and ranged DPS. |
| Bomb Squad | Permafrost Prism, Demon Helmet | Coordinate devastating AoE combos that wipe clumped enemies. |
| Scout / Ganker | Claws, Double-Bladed Staff | Vision control. Catch stragglers. Disrupt enemy reinforcement routes. |
The shot-caller (usually the guild leader or a designated commander) makes all engage/disengage decisions. One voice, one plan. Disobeying the shot-caller loses fights.
ZvZ Engagement Flow
- Scout phase โ Locate enemy zerg. Track their numbers and composition.
- Positioning phase โ Move your zerg to choke point or high ground. Terrain advantage wins fights before they start.
- Engage call โ Tank engages. DPS follows. Healers position behind the line.
- Focus fire โ Shot-caller names targets. Entire zerg switches to that target simultaneously.
- Reset or chase โ If the enemy retreats, decide: chase and wipe them, or reset and hold ground.
Territory Control: Owning the Map
Guilds claim territories on the Outlands map (full-loot PvP zones) and the Roads of Avalon. Territories generate resources, provide crafting bonuses, and score season points.
How to Claim a Territory
- Launch an attack during the territoryโs prime time window. Each territory has a fixed 4-hour window determined by its location.
- Win the GvG (Guild vs Guild) fight โ a 5v5 or 20v20 battle (depending on territory type) fought in an instanced arena.
- Defend the territory for the remainder of the season. Territories reset at season end.
Territory Benefits
| Territory Type | Generates | Additional Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Farm Territory | Food | Increases crop yield for guild members |
| Resource Territory | Stone, Ore, Wood, Hide | Increases gather yield in that zone |
| Crafting Territory | Crafting materials | Crafting station discounts for guild members |
| Hideout Territory | Defensive position | Allows building a Hideout (guild base) |
Hideouts
Hideouts are guild bases built on claimed territories. They serve as:
- Safe zones in full-loot territory โ respawn, regear, and bank without returning to the royal continent.
- Crafting hubs โ Guild-owned crafting stations with discounted usage fees.
- Staging points โ Closer respawn for ZvZ engagements in the area.
- Storage โ Bank items in the Outlands instead of hauling everything back to the city.
Hideouts cost resources to build and maintain. They can be attacked and destroyed by enemy guilds during prime time windows. Defending a Hideout is a guild-wide priority.
Season Points: The Competitive Leaderboard
Guild seasons run for approximately 3 months. Guilds earn season points through various activities and are ranked on a global leaderboard. Season rank determines rewards, prestige, and bragging rights.
How to Earn Season Points
| Activity | Points Awarded | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Territory ownership | Daily points per territory held | Passive income. More territories = more daily points. |
| Territory defense (GvG win) | Large bonus on successful defense | Defenders advantage โ you know when the attack comes. |
| Castle capture | Massive one-time bonus | Castles are open-world objectives that spawn on timers. Expect massive ZvZ fights. |
| Outpost capture | Medium bonus | Smaller than castles, more frequent spawns. Good for smaller guilds. |
| Killing enemy players in Outlands | Small points per kill | Incentivizes roaming and ganking between major objectives. |
| Season challenge objectives | Variable | Rotating challenges set each season. Check the season UI for current objectives. |
Season Rewards
Top-ranking guilds receive:
- Season winner statues โ Displayed in cities, permanent recognition.
- Unique mounts and cosmetics โ Only available to top-ranked guild members.
- Bonus silver and resources โ Distributed to guild members based on participation.
- Fame bonus โ Experience boost for the guild during the following season.
Guild vs Guild (GvG): The 5v5 and 20v20 Fights
GvG fights determine territory ownership. Theyโre instanced, structured, and broadcast on the in-game map for all players to watch.
5v5 GvG:
- Fought over single territories.
- Requires one tank, one healer, three DPS (standard comp).
- Won by eliminating the enemy team or capturing the objective.
- High individual skill requirement โ one playerโs mistake costs the fight.
20v20 GvG:
- Fought over larger territories and Hideouts.
- Composition is more flexible but typically 4-5 tanks, 5-6 healers, 10-11 DPS.
- Coordination gap matters more than individual skill โ the better coordinated team wins.
- Losing a 20v20 GvG wipes your Hideout if itโs the Hideout territory being contested.
GvG gear: Equipment used in GvG fights is NOT lost on death. Itโs a โsafeโ PvP instance. Bring your best gear. There is no reason to hold back.
Alliance Politics: The Meta-Game
Guilds form alliances to coordinate territory control. Alliance members share:
- Mutual defense โ If one alliance guildโs territory is attacked, alliance members help defend.
- Resource sharing โ Alliance hideouts and crafting stations are accessible to all members.
- Coordinated season point farming โ Alliances time their castle and outpost captures to maximize point gains.
Alliance politics matter. The strongest guilds arenโt always the top-ranked โ theyโre the ones with the best alliances. Betrayals, mergers, and diplomatic plays are part of the game.
Coalition warfare: During season end, multiple alliances often coordinate mass attacks to deny a rival allianceโs top guild the season win. Expect 200+ player battles in the final days of a season.
Getting into Guild Warfare as a New Player
- Join a mid-tier guild first. Top guilds require high Fame (experience) and specific gear sets. Mid-tier guilds are more willing to train new players.
- Level one ZvZ role to max spec. Pick a role (tank, healer, or DPS) and max out one weapon line thatโs always in demand. Tanks and healers get into fights more easily than DPS.
- Attend guild ZvZ practices. Most guilds hold regular practice sessions. Show up consistently. A reliable attendee with okay gear is more valuable than a fully geared player who never shows up.
- Build your economy first. ZvZ gear breaks on death (in open-world ZvZ, not GvG). You need income to replace lost sets. Crafting or gathering income funds your PvP habit.
