Root of the World is the sixth chapter of the Legends Relics storyline in World of Warcraft: Midnight, and it answers one of the expansion’s oldest mysteries: where the haranir’s legendary staff came from. If you are working through the haranir questlines, our WoW Midnight Haranir Allied Race Guide covers the race unlock — this guide walks through the Root of the World quest itself, step by step.
Quest Basics
- Quest ID: 88998
- Storyline: Legends Relics (chapter 6 of 7, between Russula’s Outreach and Sky’s Hope)
- Location: Vale of Secrets, Harandar
- Rewards: Replica Root of the World, Avid Learner’s Supply Pack, Hara’ti reputation
How to Complete Root of the World
Step 1: Travel to the Vale of Secrets
Head to the Vale of Secrets in Harandar, the haranir’s fungal-jungle homeland where the roots of all world trees converge. The quest marker leads you to the Ancient Visionstone — the same style of storytelling device used throughout the Legends Relics chain.
Step 2: Meditate at the Ancient Visionstone
Interact with the Visionstone to begin the vision sequence. You experience history through the eyes of Ruilla the Huntress, the pivotal figure in the staff’s creation. Expect a short scripted scenario rather than combat — stay through the whole vision or the objective will not credit.
Step 3: Learn the Legend of the Root of the World
The vision reveals the core lore: the Root of the World was the first gift of the land to the haranir, and Ruilla’s actions shortly after the haranir first came to Harandar set the events in motion that placed the staff in her people’s hands. This is pure story payoff — no branching choices, no fail conditions.
Step 4: Turn In and Collect Rewards
Return to complete the quest for the Replica Root of the World (a cosmetic staff appearance), an Avid Learner’s Supply Pack, and reputation with The Hara’ti. Completion also flags the chapter done for the full Legends Relics meta.
The Follow-Up: Story of the Root of the World
A second quest, The Story of the Root of the World (ID 92724), revisits the same Visionstone with new dialogue — “the Rootways are never walked the same way twice.” It rewards another Supply Pack plus Voidlight Marl and more Hara’ti rep. Do both back-to-back while you are in the Vale; the travel is the only real cost.
Lore Context Worth Knowing
Harandar is the home of the haranir, who travel Azeroth’s hidden rootways observing the world in secret. The Rift of Aln — the primordial wound where dream and reality grow thin — lies in the same zone, and several Midnight systems (Prey, Showdown Zones) tie back into Harandar content. If this quest hooked you on the zone, our WoW Midnight Showdown Zones Farming Guide is the natural next stop.
