With the Midnight pre-patch in full swing and Early Access just around the corner on February 26th, players are scrambling to unlock the expansion’s flagship Allied Race: the elusive Haranir.
Unlike previous Allied Races that required weeks of reputation grinding, the Haranir unlock is baked directly into the Midnight launch campaign. However, the process is gated behind the specific “Roots of the World” storyline, which has caught many returning players off guard.
This guide details exactly how to befriend the Haranir, complete the prerequisite quest chain, and troubleshoot common phasing issues reported in the pre-patch.
Haranir Unlock Requirements Checklist
Before you can create a Haranir character, you must complete the following criteria on at least one character:
- Expansion Ownership: Purchase World of Warcraft: Midnight.
- Level Requirement: Level 80 character (The War Within cap).
- Achievement: [One With the Roots]
- Criteria: Complete the “Roots of the World” campaign chapter.
- Note: You do not need Exalted reputation with the Haranir to unlock the race, though reputation is required for their Heritage Armor.
Status Check: As of the February 19th build, this quest chain is available to all players who have completed the “Khaz Algar” prologue chapter.
”Roots of the World” Quest Chain Walkthrough
The journey creates a bridge between the Earthen of Khaz Algar and the ancient guardians of the world roots in the revamped Quel’Thalas zones.
Step 1: The Call of the World Soul
- Quest Giver: Alleria Windrunner (Located in the new Arcantina hub in Voidstorm, or Dalaran for non-Early Access players).
- Quest: Whispers from Below
- Objective: Speak to Magni Bronzebeard at the Heart of the World.
- Description: Alleria warns of Xal’atath’s encroaching forces on the roots of Elun’ahir. You are sent to investigate a disturbance where the roots breach the surface.
Step 2: Into the Thicket
- Location: The Tangled Weald (New sub-zone in the revamped Eversong Woods).
- Quest: Thorny Diplomacy
- Objective: Confront the Haranir scouts.
- Strategy: You will be attacked by Haranir Rootwalkers. Do not kill them! You must use the “Pacification Totem” provided in your quest log when they reach 30% HP.
- [Image Description: A screenshot showing the player using the Pacification Totem item on a Haranir Rootwalker NPC, who is glowing with a red hostile aura in a dense, purple-tinted forest.]
Step 3: The Root-Mother’s Audience
- Quest: Binding the Severed
- Objective: Collect 12 Corrupted Sap and 3 Void-Touched Bark.
- Quest Giver: Speaker Orin (Haranir Emissary).
- Details: After proving you aren’t an enemy, Speaker Orin asks for help cleansing the local flora. These drop from Void-warped treants in the area. The drop rate is currently ~40%, so expect to kill about 25-30 mobs.
Step 4: The Ritual of Grafting
- Quest: Roots of the World (Finale)
- Objective: Defend the Root-Mother while she performs the grafting ritual.
- Encounter: This is a 3-wave scenario.
- Wave 1: Void mites (AoE them down).
- Wave 2: 2x Faceless ones (Interrupt “Mind Flay” or get feared).
- Wave 3: N’Zothic Corruptor (Mini-boss). Kite him away from the Root-Mother when he casts Void Puddle.
- Reward: Achievement [One With the Roots] and the Haranir Allied Race Unlock.
Known Bugs & Troubleshooting (Feb 2026)
The Midnight pre-patch is technically complex, and several players have reported issues completing this chain.
Bug: “Speaker Orin is missing”
- Issue: After completing Thorny Diplomacy, Speaker Orin may not appear in the phased version of The Tangled Weald.
- Fix: This is usually caused by having the “Eversong Offensive” quest active from the separate pre-patch event. abandon the quest “Holding the Line” and relog. Orin should reappear.
Bug: Stuck in Combat during “Roots of the World” Scenario
- Issue: The third wave of the scenario sometimes fails to spawn if you kill the Faceless Ones too quickly.
- Fix: Let the second wave NPCs finish their dialogue lines (“For the Void!”) before killing them. If you are stuck, right-click your portrait and select “Leave Instance Group” to reset the scenario.
Racial Traits & Classes
Once unlocked, Haranir can be the following classes:
- Classes: Druid (Custom forms!), Hunter, Shaman, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Priest, Monk.
- Racial Passive: Photosynthesis – Increases Haste by 1% during the day and Versatility by 1% at night.
- Racial Active: Rootbound – Roots the target in place for 2 seconds and heals the caster for 5% of maximum health. (2 min cooldown).
Where to Create Your Haranir
After completing the achievement:
- Log out to the Character Select screen.
- Click “Create New Character”.
- Select the Haranir icon (located near the Night Elves/Trolls).
- If the icon is still grayed out, restart your Battle.net client to force a license refresh.
Ready to defend Azeroth? The Haranir offer a unique perspective on the war against the Void, and their Druid forms—featuring corrupted wood and void-glow aesthetics—are already a community favorite. See you in the Midnight launch!
