Phase 6 of World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery has finally opened the long-rumored Karazhan Crypts, a zone that has tantalized players for nearly two decades. Among its eerie halls lies the “Upside-Down Sinners” area, a terrifying submerged section that houses critical loot and the new Warlock rune.

Here is your guide to navigating the Crypts, surviving the underwater horrors, and defeating the new encounters.

Accessing the Upside-Down Sinners

The Karazhan Crypts instance entrance is located behind the bustling Karazhan raid portal, near the graveyard in Deadwind Pass. However, the “Upside-Down Sinners” area is gated.

  1. The Rusty Key: You must first defeat the Pause boss in the upper crypts. He drops the Rusty Crypt Key.
  2. The Well: Jump down the well located in the “Pauper’s Walk” section. You will land in a submerged tunnel. Bring Water Breathing potions or a Warlock!
  3. The Gate: Use the key on the iron gate at the bottom of the well to enter the Upside-Down Sinners proper.

New Rune: Rune of the Necrolyte (Warlock)

Warlocks in Phase 6 gain access to the Rune of the Necrolyte, which transforms their gameplay into a drain-tanking powerhouse.

  • Location: Inside the Upside-Down Sinners room, look for a floating corpse that is not bound by chains.
  • Interaction: You must cast Detect Invisibility (or have a buff that allows you to see invisible entities) to see the wandering Spirit of the Betrayer near the corpse.
  • The Ritual: The Spirit requires you to sacrifice 50% of your HP using Hellfire while standing near the corpse. Once done, the Spirit becomes hostile. Defeat it to loot the Rune.

Boss Mechanic: Tormented Souls

The area is guarded by elite mobs known as Tormented Souls. These mobs have a unique mechanic that can wipe an unprepared group.

  • Invisibility: Tormented Souls are naturally invisible. You must have a Warlock spam Detect Invisibility on the tank, or use Potions of Detect Lesser Invisibility.
  • The Grip: If a player without invisibility detection gets too close, the Soul will cast Grip of the Damned, drowning the player instantly (unavoidable death).
  • Current Strategy: The tank must spot the mobs first and engage them. Once engaged, they become visible to the whole party. Do not let DPS run ahead of the tank in this section!

The Karazhan Crypts offer some of the most atmospheric and challenging content in SoD Phase 6. Tread carefully, and don’t forget to breathe.
