Temtem Beginner Guide 2026
Temtem is a massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure. Think Pokemon but fully online with co-op, competitive battles, and an MMO economy. Starting strong means picking the right starter and understanding the type chart.
Note: Verified as of July 2026. Check official patch notes for updates.

Starter Temtem
| Starter | Type | Strengths | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crystle | Crystal | Beats Electric, Mental | Balanced. Good for learning type matchups. |
| Smazee | Melee | Beats Earth, Crystal | Aggressive. High damage, fragile. |
| Houchic | Mental | Beats Melee, Neutral | Special attacker. Strong but squishy. |
All three are viable. Crystle is recommended for beginners — good bulk, straightforward game plan.
Type Matchups Matter
Temtem uses a 12-type system with 2x and 0.5x damage multipliers. Learn the chart early — the game punishes bad type matchups harder than Pokemon. Bring a balanced team covering at least 6 types.
Breeding and the Economy
Breeding produces Temtem with better stats (SVs) and egg moves. Each Temtem has a limited fertility — they produce fewer eggs as they breed. Plan breeding chains carefully. Perfect SVs (all 50) are the endgame goal. Sell breedjects on the auction house for Pansuns (currency).
Summary
Pick Crystle. Build a balanced team. Learn type matchups. Breed for perfect SVs. Complete the main story first before diving into competitive.
Type Matchups Quick Reference
Temtem uses a 12-type system. Learn these 2x matchups first — they matter more than stats in PvE.
| Attacking Type | 2x Damage Against |
|---|---|
| Fire | Nature, Crystal |
| Water | Fire, Earth, Digital |
| Nature | Water, Earth |
| Electric | Water, Mental, Wind, Digital |
| Mental | Neutral, Melee |
| Earth | Electric, Crystal, Fire |
| Crystal | Electric, Mental |
| Melee | Earth, Crystal |
| Wind | Toxic |
| Toxic | Water, Nature |
| Digital | Melee, Mental, Digital |
| Neutral | (none — deals 1x to everything) |
Build your story team to cover these 2x weaknesses. A balanced team of 6 Temtem covering all 12 types ensures you always have a super-effective answer. For competitive nuances, see our Temtem Tier List.
Breeding Essentials
Breeding produces Temtem with better SVs (individual stats, 1-50). Each parent can breed a limited number of times (fertility).
- Target SVs: 40+ in HP, ATK/SPATK, and Speed for PvE. 45+ in all stats for competitive.
- Egg moves: Some moves can only be learned through breeding. Check the Temtem wiki for egg move lists.
- Luma hunting: 1/10,000 chance for a shiny Temtem. Breeding with one Luma parent increases odds to 1/1,000. The endgame chase.
Sell breedjects (Temtem with 3-4 perfect SVs but wrong trait) on the auction house for Pansuns — a reliable income source for mid-game players.
