TBC Anniversary: Honor Cap Calculation for Level 70 Pre-Bis

With Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Edition on the horizon, PvP players are already planning their route to Gladiator. The most common question isn’t “what is the best class,” but “how much farming do I need to do now to be ready for Season 1?”

The answer lies in the specific breakdown between Reputation Gear (your starter set) and Honor Off-pieces (your true pre-BiS). If you walk into Nagrand Arena in full quest greens, you will be globaled. Here is the math to ensure that doesn’t happen.

The Rules of Engagement: Caps and Currencies

Before we get to the shopping list, you need to know the limits of your wallet.

  • Honor Cap: 75,000 Honor Points. You cannot hoard more than this.
  • Marks of Honor Cap: 100 of each Battleground Mark (Alterac Valley, Arathi Basin, Warsong Gulch, Eye of the Storm).

Crucial Note on Arena Points: According to recent blue posts regarding the Anniversary edition, any Arena Points accrued (if applicable during pre-season skirmishes or special events) will roll over into Honor at a 1:10 ratio, up to the hard cap. Ensure you aren’t sitting on “dead” currency that will vanish or overcap you on launch day.

Part 1: The “Blue PvP Set” (Reputation, Not Honor)

This is the biggest misconception for returning players. You do NOT spend Honor on your initial 5-piece Blue PvP set (e.g., Dragonhide, Felweave, Satin).

In the original TBC launch window (which Anniversary emulates), this set is gated behind Reputation with the major Outland factions.

  • Cost: ~12-15 Gold per piece (varies by reputation discount).
  • Requirement: Revered (reduced to Honored in later phases, but assume Revered for Anniversary launch).

Strategy: Do not farm Honor for these. Farm Reputation via dungeon grinding before you start questing. If you hit Revered with these five factions, you can buy your full 5-piece starter set with Gold the moment you hit Level 70.

Part 2: The “Honor Off-Pieces” (The Real Grind)

This is where your 75,000 Honor Cap comes into play. The “Veteran’s” (Alliance) or “General’s” (Horde) off-pieces are far superior to dungeon drops because of the high Resilience stat.

These items are purchased with Honor Points + Marks of Honor.

The Shopping List (Season 1 Costs)

Note: Values are based on standard TBC Classic Season 1 data. Anniversary values may fluctuate slightly globally, but these are the safe targets.

  1. Weapon (Main Hand/2H): Not available for Honor initially (Arena Points usually required).
  2. Off-Hand / Shield: ~19,125 Honor + 20 Marks (AV)
  3. Bracers: 11,794 Honor + 20 Marks (WSG)
  4. Belt: 17,850 Honor + 40 Marks (AB)
  5. Boots: 17,850 Honor + 40 Marks (EoS)
  6. Neck: 15,300 Honor + 10 Marks (EoS)
  7. Ring: 11,934 Honor + 10 Marks (AV)
  8. Trinket (Medallion): ~16,983 Honor (Essential for breaking CC)
  9. Cloak: 9,435 Honor + 20 Marks (AB)

Total Cost for Full Off-Set

To buy every single off-piece available on Day 1 (Bracers, Belt, Boots, Neck, Ring, Cloak, Trinket):

  • Total Honor Needed: ~101,146 Honor
  • Total Marks Needed:
    • AB: 60
    • EoS: 50
    • WSG: 20
    • AV: 10 + (20 for Off-hand)

The Problem: The Math Doesn’t Fit

You need ~101,000 Honor, but you are capped at 75,000.

The Solution: Buy Order

Since you cannot bank enough Honor for everything, you must prioritize.

  1. Farm to Cap (75k Honor + 100 of each Mark) during Pre-Patch.
  2. Day 1 Purchase Order:
    • Must-Haves: Medallion (Trinket) and Ring. The trinket is mandatory for Arena.
    • Big Stats: Belt and Boots. These offer the largest stats and sockets for your buck.
    • Total Spent: ~64,000 Honor.
  3. The “Gap”: You will have ~11,000 Honor left.
  4. Grind Level 70 BGs: You will need to farm the remaining ~26,000 Honor (for Bracers/Neck/Cloak) while leveling or doing Level 70 BGs.

Summary Checklist for Launch

  1. Gold: Save ~100g for your Blue Reputation Set.
  2. Reputation: Hit Revered with the “Big 5” Outland factions (prioritize your Head and Chest slots if short on time).
  3. Honor: Cap at 75,000.
  4. Marks:
    • Prioritize Arathi Basin (60 needed) and Eye of the Storm (50 needed).
    • Warsong Gulch is less critical (only 20 needed for Bracers).

The “Anniversary” experience is about efficiency. By knowing that your main armors cost Gold and your accessories cost Honor, you avoid the common trap of over-farming BGs only to realize you have nothing to spend it on but off-pieces. Happy hunting!
