The OSRS Huntsman’s Kit is the single biggest quality-of-life unlock for anyone training Hunter seriously. This untradeable storage container holds up to 32 types of Hunter equipment, protects its contents even when you die in the Wilderness, and doubles as a portable deposit box with the right setup. Here is exactly how to get the Huntsman’s Kit and how to use it.
If you are still learning the system that drops it, start with our OSRS Hunter’s Rumours Guide — the kit only comes from that activity.
How to Get the Huntsman’s Kit
The Huntsman’s Kit drops from hunters’ loot sacks, the reward crates you receive for completing Hunter’s Rumours contracts in the Hunters’ Guild. Every tier of loot sack — adept, expert, and master — has a 1/50 drop rate for the kit, so expect to complete dozens of rumours before you see one.
Key facts about obtaining it:
- Released: 20 March 2024 with Varlamore Part One
- Source: Hunters’ loot sacks (adept, expert, master), 1/50 each
- Tradeable: No — you must earn your own
- Duplicates: You can only own one kit at a time (duplicate protection since March 2024)
There is no shortcut. The fastest path is chaining fast expert rumours with a high Hunter level, which also earns you the XP and loot sacks you want anyway.
What the Huntsman’s Kit Stores
The kit holds up to 32 different types of Hunter-related items at once. It cannot hold every storable type simultaneously, so prioritize what you actually use. Stored items cannot be used while inside — withdraw them first.
Tools and consumables
- Bird snare, noose wand, rabbit snare, unlit torch, small fishing net, rope, magic box, imp-in-a-box, teasing stick
- Butterfly net, magic butterfly net, butterfly jar, box trap
- Hunter’s spear, ring of pursuit, impling jar, Horn of Plenty, gryphon feathers
The imp-in-a-box interaction is the famous one: because the kit stores imps-in-boxes, carrying a stocked kit into extended combat effectively gives you an unlimited deposit box wherever you are.
Outfits and capes
- Wood, polar, jungle, and desert camo tops and legs
- Larupia, Graahk, and Kyatt hats, tops, and legs
- Guild hunter headwear, top, legs, and boots
- Hunter hood, Hunter cape, and trimmed Hunter cape
Storing your Hunter cape in the kit is a common flex that also frees a bank slot.
What does NOT fit
Notably unstorable: knives, ferrets, bird houses of any tier, Hunter potions, hunting mix, tinderboxes, lit torches, quetzal whistles, chinchompas, coins, hammers, and the Lunar-spell Hunter kit itself. Plan your inventory around these exceptions.
Death Mechanics: Why It Matters
Items stored in the Huntsman’s Kit are not lost on death — even in PvP Wilderness deaths — and stay stored when you reclaim your kit. For anyone doing Wilderness Hunter activities or carrying expensive guild hunter gear, this makes the kit essentially mandatory.
Two warnings:
- Destroying a filled kit destroys the contents. Empty it first with the Empty option.
- The kit empties from the last slot first, so order matters if you are managing space mid-trip.
Trading the Kit to Verity
Finished with it, or chasing loot? You can hand the kit to Guild Scribe Verity in the Hunters’ Guild basement in exchange for a master-level hunters’ loot sack (excluding uniques). You can earn the kit back afterward through more loot sacks, so this is a legitimate gamble for players hunting rare master-tier drops.
Is the Huntsman’s Kit Worth It?
Yes — for any member training Hunter past the mid-levels, the Huntsman’s Kit is the closest thing the skill has to a must-have unlock. It consolidates dozens of tools, protects them on death, banks your capes, and enables the imp-box deposit trick. The 1/50 grind sounds steep, but you will complete those rumours for XP and profit regardless.

FAQ
How do you get the Huntsman’s Kit in OSRS?
Complete Hunter’s Rumours contracts in the Hunters’ Guild. Every tier of hunters’ loot sack (adept, expert, master) has a 1/50 chance to contain the kit.
Is the Huntsman’s Kit tradeable?
No. The kit is untradeable and you can only own one at a time, so every account must earn its own through loot sacks.
Do you lose Huntsman’s Kit contents on death?
No. Stored items are protected on death, including PvP Wilderness deaths, and remain in the kit when you reclaim it. Never destroy a filled kit — its contents are destroyed with it.
