GW2: Unlocking the ‘Depths of Tyria’ Mastery Tracks

With the surprise drop of the mini-expansion Depths of Tyria, ArenaNet has taken us underground. Unlike the Depths of Cantha, this focuses on the ancient Asuran ruins beneath the Maguuma Jungle.

This expansion introduces two critical Mastery tracks required for map completion and the new Strike Missions.

1. Subterranean Navigation (The Mole-Mech)

This mastery upgrades your new mount/vehicle, the Delver Mech.

• Tier 1: Turbo Drill
  • Effect: Allows the Delver to break through Cracked Walls (marked with yellow paint).
  • Cost: 1 MP, 500,000 XP.
• Tier 2: Magma Plating
  • Effect: The Delver takes zero damage from lava for 10 seconds. Essential for the “Core of the World” meta event.
  • Cost: 3 MP, 1,200,000 XP.
• Tier 3: Ejector Seat
  • Effect: Launching from the Delver gives you height equal to a Skyscale launch. Integrates fluidly with gliding.
  • Cost: 5 MP, 2,000,000 XP.

2. Ancient Asuran Linguistics

Required for interacting with consoles and vendors in the new zone, Rata Novus Depths.

• Tier 1: Decipher Glyphs
  • Effect: You can read lore tablets and open Tier 1 Chests.
• Tier 2: Golem Command
  • Effect: You can command neutral Golems to fight for you for 5 minutes.
• Tier 3: Gate Access
  • Effect: Unlocks the Asuran Gates leading to the Lost Lab Strike Mission hub.

Where to farm Mastery Points (MPs)

The map is stingy with MPs. Here are the easiest ones to miss:

1. The Ceiling Lichen: Use a Skyscale to fly to the very top of the Crystal Cavern. There is a hidden commune point behind a stalactite.
2. Delver Race Gold: The race “Tunnel Run” is easy if you use the Tier 1 Drill boost on the shortcut right after the second checkpoint.
