Code of Creation arrives September 15, 2026 — the third and final quarterly update closing out Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity, and the last content release of this kind for a while given the confirmed 18-month expansion gap after it (Guild Wars 3’s launch era begins next). ArenaNet’s late-August previews showed the raid, the Convergence rewards, and the constellation-themed enemies, and raid teams are already theorycrafting. This guide collects everything confirmed so far, plus how to prep your account before September 15.
Note: This guide reflects the Code of Creation reveal as of August 2026. Encounter details will firm up once the update is live.
What’s in Code of Creation
Per the official reveal and wiki tracking:
- Story finale — roughly six chapters closing the Visions of Eternity arc
- Leyspring Hollows — the new explorable map
- Depths of Cruelty — the new open-world meta event on that map
- A new fractal
- Nexus of Eternity — the new raid (more below)
- A new Convergence — the 10-player large-group format introduced in the Janthir Wilds era
- Rift Amplification — the new mastery
- New legendaries, including a legendary sword
- The quarterly Wizards Vault refresh and new achievements
The Nexus of Eternity Raid
The sizzle reel showed a raid boss composed of stars and constellations — a celestial entity consistent with Visions of Eternity’s star-magic themes. Player transformations appear in the preview, suggesting at least one encounter segment replaces your bar. The showcased weapons carry spiny, necrotic-radiating designs, which lines up with the expansion’s legendary weapon track.
Practical expectations, based on the Janthir Wilds raid precedent (the game’s return to raiding after a long hiatus):
- Expect a multi-encounter wing rather than a single boss — the Janthir Wilds raid set that structure.
- Expect Convergence integration — the Janthir-era Convergence ran story-adjacent variants of raid content, and Code of Creation follows the same pattern with its own Convergence and rewards.
- Expect legendary-adjacent rewards on the raid track — the Visions of Eternity expansion carries three legendary weapon tracks, two legendary accessories, a legendary ring, and legendary aquabreather; Code of Creation’s sword rides that line.
Convergence Rewards
Convergences are the 10-player mixed-difficulty format — easier than raids, deeper than strikes — and they’re the most accessible raid-reward track in the game. The Code of Creation Convergence pays all-new rewards, which historically means: ascended-tier gear pieces, the expansion’s progression currencies, cosmetic sets, and materials feeding the legendary track. If you’re a returning player wanting in on the new legendaries without a raid roster, the Convergence is your route.
Rift Amplification Mastery
The new mastery sits on the Rift Hunting system (the rift-hunting loop introduced in Secrets of the Obscure and expanded every cycle since). Expect it to deepen rift tracking, amplification effects, or reward scaling — the name implies stronger rift-related outputs. Budget mastery points accordingly: rift hunting remains the single best casual gold-and-progression loop in the modern game, and our rift hunting guide covers the baseline loop this mastery will modify.
Prep Checklist Before September 15
- Finish the Visions of Eternity story. The finale continues directly from the current chapters — play through the existing VoE content first so you can start the finale on day one.
- Bank Wizards Vault progress. The quarterly refresh resets vault objectives; claim what you want before the update, and expect a fresh reward track worth ~significant gold on day one.
- Stock rift materials. Rift Amplification mastery will likely eat rift-relevant materials and currencies — our rift hunting guide lists the farming loops.
- If you raid: refresh your roster raid-ready gear. A new raid means early prog race, and the legendary sword track will likely require raid/convergence participation.
- If you’re a Convergence player: find a group now. Convergence lobbies spike on update day and normalize within a week — statics form in the first 48 hours.
- Check your elite specs. Visions of Eternity shipped nine new elite specs (Luminary, Conduit, Paragon, Amalgam, Galeshot, Antiquary, Evoker, Troubadour, Ritualist) — Code of Creation balance will almost certainly tune them, so read patch notes before locking raid comps.
Raid Access: What You Need Before September 15
Newer players often don’t realize GW2’s raid system has no gear-gating — access is knowledge and mechanics, not item level. What you actually need:
- The raid-access unlock path. Raiding unlocked for Visions of Eternity owners through the expansion’s systems; Code of Creation’s raid rides the same access line (the expansion page lists Raid Encounters as a VoE feature).
- Ascended-tier gear as the practical floor. Nothing enforces it, but the community expects ascended weapons and armor for prog — the stat difference on a ten-player encounter is real. The Wizards Vault is the cheapest ascended source in the game; bank it before the refresh.
- A raid-reading habit. GW2 raid encounters are mechanic-driven; the teams that clear week one are the ones that read the guides, join training lobbies, and accept wipes as tuition.
- Raid-ready elite specs. The VoE elite specs (Luminary, Conduit, Paragon, Amalgam, Galeshot, Antiquary, Evoker, Troubadour, Ritualist) are the current comp-building blocks — bring one you’ve actually practiced.
If you’re new to raiding entirely, the Convergence is the intended on-ramp: ten players, raid mechanics at approachable difficulty, and the same reward track at reduced intensity. Clear a Convergence first and the raid’s difficulty curve stops being a cliff.
The Bigger Context: The GW3 Gap
ArenaNet has confirmed that after Code of Creation, GW2 enters an 18-month expansion content gap — real annual expansions resume after Guild Wars 3 launches. That makes September 15 the last major PvE content drop for the foreseeable cycle, which changes the math for two groups:
- Content-starved players: this update is the final meal; play it slowly and milk the Convergence/reward tracks.
- Investment-minded players: legendary crafting rewards that stay relevant through an 18-month gap are worth more than usual — the new legendary sword and the VoE legendary tracks are long-term value plays.
Either way, Code of Creation is the most consequential GW2 update since Visions of Eternity launched in October 2025.
For build and progression context, our gold farming methods guide covers the economy loops that fund legendary crafting, the Wizards Vault guide covers the reward-track system being refreshed, and the returning player guide catches you up on the modern systems.
