Dune Awakening Update 1.4: Wind Pass, Old Quarry Boss, and Water Wars DLC

Last Verified: May 2026

Dune Awakening Update 1.4 went live on May 19, 2026. This is not a Chapter update — Funcom describes it as a “smaller release” while the major upcoming content continues development. That said, it brings two new locations, a new boss encounter, self-hosted server support, PvP changes, and a paid DLC with a substantial amount of Water Shipper-themed cosmetics.

Here is everything in Update 1.4.

Two New Locations

The Wind Pass

The Wind Pass is a former Harkonnen technology hub that is now controlled by the Water Shippers, serving as a key center of Arrakis’ water trade. Five new Landsraad missions are available at this location, each with unique rewards. If you have already worked through the earlier Landsraad mission sets, Wind Pass is the direct continuation.

For background on the Landsraad mission system, see the Dune Awakening Landsraad Missions Guide.

The Old Quarry Testing Station

The Old Quarry is a scalable new Testing Station with a new boss: Dr. Jalanta, described as a devious scientist with her own unique mechanics hidden deep within a secret laboratory. The Testing Station scales in difficulty, making it relevant for a wider range of player power levels.

Funcom has not detailed the exact mechanics of the Dr. Jalanta fight beyond the “unique mechanics” description — discovering the fight blind is clearly intentional.

Self-Hosted Servers Now Live

Players can now self-host Dune Awakening battlegroups on their own machines. Hosts can customize the experience through configuration files:

  • Adjust the balance between PvE and PvP content
  • Make the server fully PvE or fully PvP
  • Tweak a range of other server settings

Funcom notes this is an “early iteration” that will continue to evolve. If you want full control over your server environment, this is the feature to watch.

PvP Now Optional

As Dune Awakening approaches its one-year anniversary (the game has received more than 15 updates since launch), PvP has officially become fully optional. Players now have full control over how they experience Arrakis — you can engage with player conflict on your terms or ignore it entirely.

This is a significant change for anyone who avoided the game due to forced PvP concerns.

Steam Sale: 40% Off Through June 1

To celebrate Update 1.4, Dune Awakening is 40% off on Steam from May 22 through June 1, bringing the price below $30 USD. If you have been waiting for a discount to try it, this is the current opportunity.

Community Challenge: Secrets of the Water Shippers

Running alongside Update 1.4 is a community challenge: players must complete The Old Quarry and Wind Pass missions as many times as possible. If the community hits all milestones, two unique weapon variants unlock:

  • Vivisectionists Bone Saw (melee)
  • Asteroid Harvester Maula Pistol (ranged)

These are community-wide rewards — every player benefits from the collective effort.

Water Wars DLC (Optional, $9.99)

The Water Wars DLC launches alongside Update 1.4 and completes the existing Season Pass. It is priced at $9.99 or included in the Season Pass ($24.99), which comes with the Deluxe and Ultimate editions of the game.

Contents of Water Wars DLC:

  • Water Shippers Building Set (52 pieces)
  • Water Shippers Decoration Set (18 pieces)
  • Water Shippers Stillsuit Variant Set
  • Water Shippers Light Armor Variant Set
  • Water Shippers Heavy Armor Variant Set
  • Water Shippers Weapon Variants (1 melee, 1 ranged)
  • Water Shippers Scout Ornithopter Variant
  • Water Shippers Swatch
  • 2 Emotes

The base Update 1.4 (new locations, new boss, self-hosted servers, PvP changes) is free for all players. Only the cosmetic DLC has a cost.

What Is Coming Next?

Funcom confirmed that larger content is in development beyond Update 1.4:

  • Polar Cap map (previously announced, still in development)
  • New features and new content not yet detailed
  • Continuation of the main story

Update 1.4 is explicitly a bridge release while the major Chapter update continues development. The full patch notes for this update are available at duneawakening.com/news/dune-awakening-1-4-0-0-patch-notes.
