Wakfu Beginner Guide 2026 — Best Class, Professions and Progression

Wakfu is a tactical turn-based MMORPG set in the same universe as Dofus, but with unique systems — a player-driven ecosystem, political governance, and environmental management. Starting Wakfu in 2026 is confusing without guidance. Here is what you need to know.

Note: Verified as of July 2026. Check official patch notes for updates.

Choosing Your Class

Wakfu has 18 classes, each with three elemental specialisations. You earn spells as you level and build your own ability deck.

ClassRoleDifficultyBeginner-Friendly?
IopMelee DPSEasyYes — straightforward damage dealer
CraRanged DPSEasyYes — ranged damage, safe positioning
EniripsaHealerEasyYes — pure healer, always wanted
SacrierMelee TankMediumYes — gains power as HP drops
FecaTank/SupportMediumYes — shields and protection
OsaPet SummonerHardNo — complex pet management
XelorTime MageHardNo — AP manipulation is complex

Recommendation: Start Cra (ranged DPS) or Iop (melee DPS). Both are simple, effective, and teach the combat system without overwhelming you.

The Ecosystem System

Wakfu’s defining feature is its player-driven ecosystem. Every tree harvested, every monster killed, every seed planted affects the world.

  • Over-harvesting resources makes them scarcer and reduces their quality.
  • Replanting seeds restores the ecosystem and increases resource quality.
  • Monster families have population dynamics. Killing too many of one family can cause others to overpopulate.
  • Weather and seasons affect resource yields and monster spawns.

As a new player, follow the environmental guidelines shown on the world map. Do not over-farm a single resource node. If an area is depleted, move to another.

Citizenship and Politics

At level 20, you can become a Citizen of a nation (Bonta, Brakmar, Amakna, or Sufokia). Citizenship unlocks:

  • Voting in elections (elect the Governor)
  • Running for political office
  • Access to nation-specific quests and rewards
  • Nation bonuses (tax rates, resource availability)

Recommendation: Choose the nation with the highest population on your server. Check the community board in Astrub for current nation stats.

Professions (Crafting and Gathering)

Wakfu has an extensive profession system:

CategoryProfessionsPurpose
GatheringLumberjack, Miner, Farmer, Fisherman, Herbalist, TrapperCollect raw materials
CraftingWeaponsmith, Armourer, Jeweller, Baker, Alchemist, Handyman, Tailor, Leatherworker, etc.Turn materials into items

Best beginner professions:

  1. Baker — Makes bread (HP/AP regen). Always in demand. Simple to level.
  2. Lumberjack + Miner — Gathering professions that feed multiple crafting trees.
  3. Handyman — Crafts keys to unlock dungeons. Highly profitable.

You can learn up to 5 professions per character. Focus on 2-3 rather than spreading thin.

Combat Basics

Wakfu combat is turn-based and tactical on a grid:

  • AP (Action Points) — Spent to use abilities. Regenerates each turn.
  • MP (Movement Points) — Spent to move. Regenerates each turn.
  • WP (Wakfu Points) — Spent on powerful special abilities. Does not regenerate in combat.
  • Positioning matters — Backstabs, flanking, and range affect damage.
  • Elemental resistances — Enemies have weaknesses. Bring multiple elemental spells.

Deck building: You choose which spells to bring into combat (up to a limit). Experiment with different combinations. There is no single correct build.

Summary

Start Cra or Iop. Follow the main quest to Astrub. Learn the ecosystem rules — do not over-farm. Pick Baker and one gathering profession. Become a citizen at level 20. Join a guild for group content. Wakfu rewards patience and system knowledge over grinding.
