Villagers & Heroes Beginner Guide: Classes, Skills, and Progression in 2026

Villagers & Heroes is a free-to-play MMO from Mad Otter Games available on PC, Android, and iOS with full cross-platform play. It combines traditional MMO combat with deep crafting, player housing, village building, and an unusually friendly community. The game explains its systems gradually, but having a roadmap from the start saves dozens of hours. This guide covers everything.

If youโ€™re looking for Villagers & Heroes, or Villagers & Heroes guide, or Classes, Skills, and Progression in 2026, youโ€™re in the right place.

The Five Classes

You pick your class at character creation. There are no subclasses โ€” your class determines your role, abilities, and gear type for the entire game.

ClassRoleWeaponDifficultyPlaystyle
WarriorTank / Melee DPSSword & Shield or 2H WeaponEasyHigh survivability. Taunts, blocks, and AoE cleave. Beginner-friendly.
WizardRanged Magic DPSStaffMediumBurst damage, AoE spells, crowd control. Squishy but deadly from range.
HunterRanged Physical DPSBowEasyConsistent damage, pet companion, traps. Kiting and sustained damage.
PriestHealer / SupportMace & ShieldMediumHealing, buffs, resurrection. Essential for group content. Soloable with Holy damage.
ShamanHybrid DPS / SupportTotemHardEarth and Water magic. Damage + healing hybrid. Highest skill ceiling.

Recommendation for new players: Warrior or Hunter. Both are forgiving, self-sufficient, and effective solo. Priest is the best choice if you enjoy healing and want instant group invites.

Skills and Leveling

Villagers & Heroes uses standard quest-based leveling. You earn experience from killing enemies, completing quests, and participating in the main storyline. Side quests are worth doing โ€” they provide gear upgrades and valuable crafting materials.

Leveling tips:

  • Follow the main story quest. It guides you through each zone in order and rewards the best gear for your level.
  • Bounties give bonus XP. Each zone has bounty NPCs that offer kill quests for specific enemies. Complete these alongside main quests.
  • Elder Bosses โ€” World bosses that spawn on timers. High XP, rare loot. Join a group when one spawns in your zone.
  • Zingara โ€” Rare spawn enemies with unique drops and high XP. Hunt them if you see them, but donโ€™t farm them exclusively โ€” their spawn rates are low.

The Rebirth System

Rebirth is Villagers & Heroesโ€™ unique progression mechanic. At level cap, you can choose to rebirth โ€” resetting your level to 1 but keeping your skills, crafting levels, and earning permanent stat bonuses.

What rebirth gives you:

  • Permanent talent points that make your character stronger
  • Access to higher-tier content and zones
  • Prestige and cosmetic unlocks
  • The ability to replay quests with full knowledge of the game

How many times should you rebirth? Each rebirth makes your character stronger. Most veteran players have done 3-5 rebirths. Your first rebirth is the most impactful โ€” it unlocks the first tier of bonus talents and opens up content you couldnโ€™t access as a fresh character.

Donโ€™t rush your first rebirth. Enjoy the game. Complete the story. Level your crafting skills. Your first rebirth is a milestone, not a race.

Crafting and Gathering: A Full Second Game

Villagers & Heroes has one of the most comprehensive crafting systems in any MMO. Every crafting profession is viable for making gold. Most players level multiple professions.

Gathering Skills

SkillWhat You GatherUsed For
MiningOre, gems, stoneSmithing, Jewelcrafting
Plant LoreHerbs, flowers, woodWoodcrafting, Cooking, Tailoring
FishingFish, shells, treasureCooking, Woodcrafting
Bug LoreBugs, honey, waxCooking, Tailoring

All gathering nodes are shared โ€” if another player mines a node, it disappears for everyone. Competition exists but the world is large enough that you can always find nodes if you explore off the beaten path.

Crafting Skills

SkillWhat You MakeProfitability
SmithingWeapons, metal armor, toolsHigh โ€” weapons always sell
WoodcraftingBows, staves, furnitureMedium โ€” furniture for housing
CookingFood with stat buffsHigh โ€” consumable, repeat customers
TailoringCloth armor, bags, cosmeticsMedium โ€” bags are steady sellers

Supplies and the C.O.G.

Supplies are consumable items you craft that provide temporary buffs (health regen, mana regen, damage boosts). Theyโ€™re sold on the auction house and used heavily in group content. Crafting and selling Supplies is a reliable income source.

The C.O.G. (Community-Owned Gathering) is a zone-specific gathering event. Players work together to gather resources and deposit them for server-wide rewards. Participation gives gathering XP and C.O.G. currency that can be spent on rare items.

Village System: Player Housing and Community

Villages are player-run communities. Joining or creating a village gives you access to:

  • Player housing โ€” Your own house that you can decorate and upgrade
  • Village projects โ€” Community goals that unlock server-wide buffs and bonuses
  • Village gathering nodes โ€” Exclusive gathering spots inside your village
  • Ranching and Gardening โ€” Raise animals and grow crops on village land

How to find a village: Open the village finder (social menu), browse public villages, and apply to join. Most villages welcome new players. Being in a village provides tangible gameplay benefits โ€” itโ€™s not just social.

Leveling a village: Villages gain experience when members complete village projects. Higher-level villages unlock better buffs and more housing slots.

The Gnogmenting System

Gnogmenting (gnome + augmenting) is the gear enhancement system. You can add stat bonuses, special effects, and cosmetic changes to your equipment by combining items at a gnogmenting station.

Gnogmenting basics:

  • You need two items of the same slot (e.g., two helmets) โ€” one as the base, one as the material.
  • The material item is consumed. Its stats and effects transfer to the base item.
  • Higher gnogmenting skill lets you transfer more stats and rarer effects.
  • Some effects are exclusive to gnogmented gear and canโ€™t be obtained any other way.

Level your gnogmenting early and use it regularly. A well-gnogmented level 20 weapon can be stronger than an unenhanced level 30 weapon.

Mounts

Mounts increase your movement speed, which matters in a game with large zones and no instant fast travel everywhere. You earn your first mount through the main story quest around level 15. Premium mounts from the shop are faster but the free mount is functional.

Raids and Dungeons

Group content scales from solo-friendly to requiring coordinated teams. Key content types:

  • Dungeons (5-player) โ€” Standard instanced content. Boss mechanics exist but are forgiving at lower levels.
  • Raids (10+ player) โ€” Endgame content with complex mechanics. Requires voice coordination.
  • Elder Bosses (open world) โ€” Server-wide bosses that anyone can join. No group required โ€” just show up and fight.

Queueing: Use the group finder tool to queue for dungeons and raids. Priests and Warriors (healers and tanks) get faster queues than DPS classes.

First 10 Hours Priority

  1. Pick Warrior or Hunter for easiest solo experience.
  2. Follow the main story quest โ€” itโ€™s your leveling backbone.
  3. Unlock Mining and Smithing early. Mine every node you see.
  4. Join a village as soon as you can โ€” the buffs and social benefits matter.
  5. Level gnogmenting and use it on your weapon first. Weapon damage is your biggest power spike.
  6. Complete bounties alongside main quests for bonus XP.
  7. Save gold for your first mount. Donโ€™t spend on cosmetic items early.
