Project Gorgon ‘Desert Dreams’ Quest Guide: Solving the Sphinx Puzzle
The latest Project Gorgon update, “Desert Dreams,” has introduced the expansive new high-level zone, the Sands of Myth. While players are busy exploring the new oasis towns and leveling their Sand Surfing skill, many have hit a hard stop at the entrance to the Tombs of the Sun.
Guarding the entrance is a Sphinx NPC, aptly named Guardian Khepri. Unlike typical MMO bosses, you cannot fight her. To proceed, you must solve her riddle. This guide covers the solution, the items you need, and the rewards for proving your wit.

Finding the Sphinx
Khepri is located in the northern reaches of the Sands of Myth, directly at the entrance to the Tombs of the Sun dungeon.
- Coordinates: Near the “Oasis of Thirst” teleportation circle. Head North-East towards the canyon cliffs.
- Prerequisite: You must have at least Level 50 Psychology or Level 60 Lore to even understand her language. If you don’t meet this requirement, she simply speaks in “Ancient Sand-Tongue,” which appears as gibberish in your chat log.
The Riddle: Phase 1
When you interact with Khepri, she presents a riddle. Currently, the community has identified two variations of the riddle, depending on your character’s active skills.
Variation A (Standard)
“I have cities, but no houses. I have mountains, but no trees. I have water, but no fish. What am I?”
- Answer: Type “A Map” into the local chat or the text box provided.
Variation B (If Animal Handling is Active)
“I drink the blood of the earth but have no mouth. I run without legs. I roar without a throat. In this desert, I am life, but I can also bring death.”
- Answer: Type “Water” or “A River”.
The Offering: Phase 2
Solving the text riddle is only half the battle. Khepri will nod but remain seated. She then issues a second challenge: “The dead in these tombs thirst for what they can no longer touch. Give them the taste of the living sky.”
Many players are stuck here, trying to give water items directly to the Sphinx. Do not do this. It will consume the item and fail the quest step.

The Solution
- Craft or Buy a “Blessed Waterskin”: You need a specific item, the Blessed Waterskin. This can be crafted by Druids (Level 55+) using Water Creation and Bless Item, or purchased from the vendor Zara in the main desert outpost.
- Find the Parched Grave: Walk past the Sphinx to the left. About 20 yards away, there is a small, nondescript grave marker with a faint sun symbol.
- Action: Target the grave and use the Blessed Waterskin.
- Result: A ghost NPC will appear, drink the water, and fade away. The Sphinx will roar, and the doors to the Tombs of the Sun will open.
Rewards
Completing the puzzle grants instant access to the dungeon, but there are other benefits:
- XP: 5,000 Psychology XP and 2,000 Lore XP.
- Title: Unlocks the title “Riddle Solver”.
- Item: Khepri’s Insight (A level 60 ring that boosts Psychology damage and adds +10 to Puzzle Logic).
If you are a Mentalism user, this ring is Best-in-Slot for the current tier, making this puzzle a mandatory stop for min-maxers.
Good luck in the Tombs! Watch out for the new Scorpion mobs—their poison stacking is no joke.
