New World: Aeternum - Swimming Mounts Location: Where to Find the Hippocampus

The Season of the Deep update finally added aquatic travel to New World: Aeternum. Swimming mounts are now the fastest way to cross the expansive coastal regions, and the Hippocampus is the most sought-after variant due to its speed bonus.

Here is exactly where to farm the rare mount token.

Spawn Location: The Coral Gardens

The Hippocampus only drops from the Elite Coral Golems located in the Sunken Ruins POI (Point of Interest).

  1. Zone: Cutlass Keys.
  2. POI: Sunken Ruins (South-East Coast).
  3. Level Requirement: Level 60+ (Elite Area).

Farming Route

Step 1: Find the “Coral Guardian”

You are looking for a named elite mob: Guardian Triton.

  • Spawn: Inside the main temple ruins, underwater (requires Breath Potions or the new Diving Bell consumable).
  • Respawn Timer: ~10-15 minutes.

Step 2: The Kill

  • Mechanic: At 50% HP, he summons water elementals. Focus them down or he heals.
  • Strategy: Bring a Life Staff healer. His AoE damage is high.

Step 3: The Drop

  • Item: Reins of the Hippocampus.
  • Drop Rate: Estimated ~2-5% (Rare).
  • Luck Gear: Equip max Luck gear/food to boost your chances.

Mount Stats

  • Speed: +150% Swim Speed (Fastest in game).
  • Ability: “Dive” (Allows underwater travel without breath loss for 30s).

Warning

The zone is heavily contested by PvP factions looking to control the spawn. Bring a group!
