GW2 Legendary Weapon Starter Key Guide
The Legendary Weapon Starter Key is the post-Godspawn version of Guild Wars 2’s older starter-kit system, and it is much better once you understand what it actually does. Instead of directly giving one fixed starter kit, the key sends you into the Mists Vault and lets you choose from a set of four legendary starter options.
What the Legendary Weapon Starter Key Replaced
Before the November 2024 system change, the Wizard’s Vault sold Legendary Weapon Starter Kits directly.
After that update:
- the shop changed to Legendary Weapon Starter Keys
- the keys started with set 6 and beyond
- the selection moved into the Mists Vault
This is why older guides often look wrong now.
What the Key Costs
The current vault listing shows the Legendary Weapon Starter Key can be:
- purchased from the Wizard’s Vault
- for 1,000 Astral Acclaim
That is a major spend, so it is worth understanding the system before you click.
What You Get From the Key
Each chosen starter option is guaranteed to contain:
- the legendary weapon’s precursor
- the weapon’s gift
- a Legendary Gift Starter Kit with your choice of Gift of Might or Gift of Magic
That last choice is important because it gives the key a lot of value even if you are still missing the rest of the legendary.
What the Key Does in the Mists Vault
Using the key lets you:
- travel to the Mists Vault
- preview the associated legendary set
- choose one of the four available starter options tied to that key set
If you want repeat travel later, pair it with the Mists Vault Access Key guide.
When the Key Is Worth Buying
The Legendary Weapon Starter Key is worth it if:
- you already know which legendary family you want
- you need the precursor and gift value
- you have Astral Acclaim to spare after your must-buy account upgrades
It is much less attractive if you are still undecided and only want to browse.
Final Tip
Think of the Legendary Weapon Starter Key as a targeted value purchase, not a random impulse buy. It costs 1,000 Astral Acclaim, moves through the Mists Vault, and is best when you already have a real legendary plan instead of just curiosity.
