Arknights: Endfield is not tower defense — Hypergryph’s January 2026 launch swapped the original Arknights’ tile-based defense for real-time four-operator squad combat bolted onto a genuinely deep factory automation system (the AIC). You’re the Endministrator running a frontier operation on the alien planet Talos-II, and the first couple hours pack more systems than most gachas ask for in a week. Here’s what actually matters.
Note: Verified September 17, 2026 against the Epic Games Store official guide, endfield.gg’s live wiki and GameWith’s combat/AIC breakdowns. Current version: Dreamscape of Wind and Snow (late-August update). Steam’s Pioneer Test ran Aug 26–Sep 10 ahead of the Steam launch — wishlist is up if you’re waiting for that storefront.
The 60-Second Pitch
You command Endfield Industries on the untamed frontier of Talos-II, a harsh planet overrun by a “Blight”. Each region you open gets its own AIC — Automated Industrial Complex — where you build conveyor lines, power grids and production chains that actually feed your combat squad’s gear. Four operators in the field, one factory humming underneath: that’s the loop.
Combat: One Character, Four Brains
Endfield’s combat is real-time party squad — you control one operator, the other three fight alongside you as AI, but you can trigger their Battle Skills, Combo Skill and Ultimate manually whenever energy allows.
The mechanics baked into the system:
- Skill Points (SP) cap at three bars, shown above the HP bar — Battle Skills cost one segment. Dodge-perfect inputs and heavy attacks recharge them faster.
- Combo Skills fire automatically when conditions are met — and building a team whose conditions chain into each other is the single biggest damage lever in the game. Chen Qianyu’s Combo Skill applies Lift, for example — useful when others’ Ultimates want enemies airborne.
- Dodge cancels nothing: evading mid-combo keeps your attack chain alive. Up to two dodges back-to-back stamina meter rules.
- Perfect Dodge restores Skill Points and sets up your next attack — that’s the skill-based damage gain for every class.
Elements and Arts Reactions
Stack or mix elements deliberately — most of your team damage comes from Arts Reactions, the elemental variant of elemental-burst mechanics:
| Element | Effect on target |
|---|---|
| Heat | Combustion (burn DoT) |
| Cryo | Solidification (freeze) |
| Electric | Electrification (shock) |
| Nature | Corrosion (rot DoT) |
Two layers deep: same-element stacks produce Arts Burst (bigger hit of that element); mixing elements triggers the reaction variant for the effect in the table. Meanwhile the physical build path works differently — mark enemies Vulnerable, knock them around to amplify the mark, then cash it in with one big finishing move. Pick one damage philosophy per team; hybrids are fine late game but they’ll confuse you day one.
The AIC Factory: What to Build First
The Automated Industry Complex is the systems half of the game — and the piece most RPGs don’t attempt:
- Core AIC and outposts: Each region’s power grid and production anchor. Every outpost you unlock hands you another AIC zone for manufacturing and power management.
- The Factory Plan tree is gated by exploration — yellow inflatable tube guys (Protocol Dataloggers) scattered across the world unlock new factory upgrades. Crank the main story to reach the bottom-half upgrades (conveyor splitters, mergers, Depot Bus).
- Don’t overbuild in one region. Space and power both cap fast; distribute production lines across outposts. A Depot Bus (from the Factory Plan tree) lets you deposit/withdraw without clogging the basic AIC ports.
- Stash Mode saves facilities into your pack without deleting wiring — belts stay in place and go dark until you re-place the missing piece.
The gear chain matters: hero Rune-tier gear, craft consumables, revives and Industrial Explosives all come out of the AIC. It’s not a side system — it’s the itemized economy your combat power flows through.
Gear Priorities (What Math Actually Matters)
The manifest order from community testing:
- First: the right stats. Attack%, elemental damage where your team stacks it — raw stat floor beats every other gear metric in early to mid game.
- Second: Skill Damage boosts on your main DPS — Combo Skill scaling is where damage curves go vertical.
- Third (late game only): Set bonuses. Full gear sets cost you two or three days of farming; don’t chase them at level 20.
What’s New Dreaming About (September 2026)
Latest patches have added content beyond the launch scope, so watch these when you log in:
- The Dreamscape of Wind and Snow version update (Aug 31) is live: new area, events, more.
- Hypergryph has been shipping monthly patch content since launch — Version 1.1 rocked in the Qingbo Stockade area of Wuling, Contingency Contract (Re-Ignition) endgame operations, Forges of the Sky placement up to four units, and a proper fluid-transport production layer.
- Fight as Typhoeus on September 2 — a new boss window for all platforms.
FAQ
When did Arknights: Endfield launch? January 22, 2026 worldwide, on PC, PS5, iOS and Android — with cross-platform progress sharing. The Steam version is in a Pioneer Test playtest (Aug 26 – Sep 10 sign-ups)** with the full Steam launch date still TBA.
Is Endfield free-to-play? Yes, gacha-style. Launch rewards included 135 free pulls, sign-in events, and quest-based rewards.
Is Endfield like regular Arknights? Not structurally — tower defense is gone, replaced by real-time action combat. The common thread is the Arknights world, operators as squads, and Hypergryph’s visual identity (Talos-II is a new alien planet, not Rhine Laboratory skies).
How big is the download? ~50 GB on PC minimum, with +40 GB during extraction; 25 GB on mobile. Minimum PC spec requests a GTX 1060 with 16 GB RAM — a modest gaming PC runs it comfortably.
What’s the best early team? One damage philosophy, four operators. Physical builds want a Vulnerable-marker finisher; Arts teams run Heat/Cryo stacking to force Arts Bursts. Grab the community tier lists as a compass, not a rulebook.
Is there multiplayer or co-op? No full co-op at launch — single-player combat with AI squad members. Cross-platform progression exists across PC/PS5/iOS/Android though.
