Wizard101 Spellement Guide
Spellements are special upgrade materials introduced in 2019 that allow you to enhance your spells or unlock alternate versions of them. Unlike traditional Wizard101 progression where spells are fixed, Spellements let you customise your spell deck by making existing spells stronger or giving them new properties.
What Are Spellements?
A Spellement is a spell-specific item that corresponds to exactly one spell in your school or one of the cross-school spells. Collecting enough Spellements for a specific spell unlocks an upgrade on a Spellement tree — a branching diagram of potential improvements for that spell.
Examples of what Spellement upgrades can do:
- Add a blade/trap effect to a spell
- Increase a spell’s base damage
- Add a heal component to an attack spell
- Create an alternate version with a different pip cost
- Add a critical hit bonus to the spell
Each spell with a Spellement tree has multiple nodes — some are locked until you unlock earlier nodes first.
How to Upgrade a Spell
- Open your Spellbook (default key H)
- Navigate to the spell you want to upgrade
- Click the Spellement path indicator if the spell has upgrades available
- Select the upgrade node you want
- Spend the required number of Spellements for that spell to unlock the node
Upgrades are permanent once applied. You cannot undo a Spellement path choice once made, so choose carefully when a tree branches.
Where to Get Spellements
Boss Drops (Farming)
Spellements can drop from bosses associated with specific spells. The Loremaster in the Drake Hatchery (Dragonspyre) is the most well-known boss for farming Spellements, as she drops school-specific Spellements at a reasonable rate.
Other world bosses, particularly those in Karamelle, Lemuria, and Novus (added in later arcs), also drop Spellements for spells introduced in those worlds.
Hoard Packs / Lore Packs
Some Spellements are available exclusively through Lore Packs purchased from the Crown Shop or Bazaar. These packs drop Spellements for spells that were originally Lore Pack-only spells (learned from drop scrolls).
Fishing
Certain Spellements can be caught through fishing in specific worlds. Fish vendors also occasionally sell Spellements.
Questing Rewards
Some main story quests in newer worlds directly award Spellements as rewards, particularly in Novus and Wallaru.
Spellement Packs (Crown Shop)
Dedicated Spellement packs sell bundles of school-specific Spellements directly from the Crown Shop for Crowns (premium currency).
The Bazaar
Players can list Spellements at the Bazaar (Olde Town, Wizard City). Prices vary by supply and demand. Popular Spellements for strong spells tend to cost more.
Which Spellements Are Worth Farming
High Priority Spellements (for your school’s best spells):
- Upgrade your school’s top-tier damage spells first — they hit the hardest and benefit most from damage increases
- Focus on spells you use in every dungeon, not situational ones
- Spellements for Lore Pack spells (like Deer Knight for Death, Ninja Pigs for Myth, etc.) are worth farming if you already own those spells
Lower Priority:
- Spellements for utility spells (heals, buffs) matter less than damage spell upgrades unless you’re running a support build
- Spellements for spells you rarely cast aren’t worth grinding
School-Specific Highlights
Fire
Fire Spellements primarily improve the DoT (damage over time) component of fire spells. Upgrading Meteor Strike’s accuracy or adding a utility effect is a popular choice.
Ice
Ice Spellements often add shield/stun effects to attacks. Tower Shield Spellements can improve your defensive capabilities.
Storm
Storm upgrades typically increase raw damage ceiling on already-high-damage spells. Very powerful on critical builds.
Life
Life Spellements include upgrades to healing spells and can add extra healing ticks or targets to group heals.
Death
Death school has some of the best Spellement targets — Deer Knight (originally a Lore Pack spell) has a well-regarded upgrade path. Scarecrow’s multi-target can be enhanced.
Myth
Ninja Pigs and other Myth Lore spells have upgrade paths worth pursuing. Myth Spellements can also improve Myth’s hit-and-stun mechanics.
Balance
Balance Spellements often improve multi-hit or multi-school effects. Judge and Nested Fury have upgrade options.
Tips for Spellement Farming
- Farm the Loremaster — She drops a wide range of Spellements. Go with a group for more runs per hour.
- Check the upgrade tree before farming — Some spell upgrades aren’t strong enough to justify the farming time.
- Don’t buy Spellement packs from the Crown Shop unless you need a specific Spellement quickly — farming is more cost-efficient for most spells.
- Read the full tree before spending — You might want a node further down the tree, not the first node.
- Fish in relevant worlds — Fishing Spellements is passive and can supplement farming.
