Windrose Shovel Guide
The Shovel is one of the first utility tools in Windrose that actually unlocks hidden loot. If you are trying to finish buried-chest objectives and nothing is happening, the problem is usually either the recipe or the control mode.
Shovel Recipe
Current April 2026 guides agree on the Workbench recipe:
- 3 Copper Ingots
- 10 Wood
You craft it at the Workbench.
If copper production is still your bottleneck, use the Windrose Copper Ingot guide first.
What You Need Before You Can Craft It
You need:
- a Workbench
- enough Copper Ingots
- enough Wood
Current shovel guides also note that the Workbench itself is part of the early tutorial setup, so this is normally a progression check rather than a hidden unlock.
How to Use the Shovel
This is the part many players miss.
To use the Shovel:
- equip it
- press X to switch from attack mode to Dig
- move until the game shows the dig indicator
- dig at that spot
If you stay in attack mode, the tool will not do what you expect.
What the Shovel Is For
The main uses right now are:
- buried treasure
- hidden chest objectives
- quest clues that point to dig spots
One of the best early examples is the Traveler’s Camp second chest guide, which specifically requires a Shovel and Dig mode.
Best Time to Craft It
Craft it as soon as you have spare copper after your core progression tools. It is not as urgent as a Pickaxe or your smelting chain, but it becomes high value the moment you start hitting treasure clues.
Bottom Line
Current answer:
- craft the Shovel at a Workbench
- recipe is 3 Copper Ingots + 10 Wood
- press X to switch into Dig mode before using it
If you are standing on a treasure clue and nothing happens, check the mode first.
