Tibia Beginner Guide 2026 — Best Vocation, Leveling and Progression
Tibia is one of the oldest MMORPGs, launched in 1997 and still thriving. It has a steep learning curve, unforgiving death penalties, and a massive open world. This guide gets you from Rookgaard to the mainland with minimal pain.
Note: Verified as of July 2026. Check official patch notes for updates.
If you’re looking for Tibia guide, or Best Vocation, Leveling and Progression, you’re in the right place.
Choosing Your Vocation
Tibia has four vocations (classes). Your choice is permanent unless you buy a Vocation Change scroll.
| Vocation | Role | Difficulty | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Knight (EK) | Melee tank | Easy | Solo hunting, survivability |
| Paladin (RP) | Ranged DPS | Easy | Solo hunting, profit, safety |
| Sorcerer (MS) | Magic DPS | Medium | High damage, AoE hunting |
| Druid (ED) | Healer/Magic | Medium | Group healing, AoE, always wanted |
Recommendation: Start Paladin. Ranged attacks, good damage, excellent profit from hunting, and the safest solo vocation. Knight is also good for beginners but melee range means taking more damage.
Rookgaard to Mainland
Rookgaard is the tutorial island (levels 1-8). Complete the NPC quests (Santiago, Al Dee, etc.) to reach level 8 quickly. At level 8, speak to The Oracle to choose your vocation and teleport to the mainland city of your choice.
Best starting cities: Venore (Amazon Camp nearby for profit), Thais (central location, good low-level hunting), or Carlin (quiet, good for new players). Avoid Darashia and Ankrahmun as starting cities — they are far from essential services.
Leveling 8-50: Essential Hunting Spots
| Level | Hunting Spot | City | Profit? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8-20 | Amazon Camp | Venore | Yes (protective charms) |
| 8-20 | Rotworms | Thais/Carlin | Low |
| 20-35 | Cyclops (Mistrock, Mount Sternum) | Thais | Medium |
| 35-50 | Stonerefiners (with Stealth Ring) | Venore | Yes (very high) |
| 35-50 | Mutated Humans (Yalahar) | Yalahar | Medium |
| 45-60 | Ancient Scarabs (with task) | Ankrahmun | Yes |
Stonerefiners at level 35 with a Stealth Ring is the single best low-level hunting spot in Tibia. Excellent EXP and profit.
Equipment Progression
Tibia does not bind equipment. You can buy and sell everything freely.
| Level | Knight | Paladin | Mage |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0-25 | Plate Set | Plate Set + Bow | Wand + Spellbook |
| 25-50 | Crown Set | Crown Set + Onyx Arrows | Focus Cape, Hat of the Mad |
| 50-100 | Zaoan Armour/Legs, Demon Helmet | Yalahari Armour, Zaoan Helmet | Yalahari Mask, Focus Cape |
| 100+ | Prismatic Set | Prismatic Set, Warsinger Bow | Dwarven Armour, Yalahari Mask |
Always imbue your equipment at the Imbuing Shrine (requires completing the Forgotten Knowledge quest). Tier 3 Mana Leech and Life Leech imbuements dramatically improve hunting efficiency.
Death Penalty — Respect It
Tibia’s death penalty is harsh. You lose:
- Experience (percentage based on your level and blessings)
- Skills (percentage)
- Your backpack and all items inside (10% chance to drop equipped items)
- Blessings (must be re-purchased)
Always buy all 7 blessings. At level 100+, death without blessings can cost you hours of progress. Blessings cost 20K-100K gold depending on level — a fraction of what death costs without them.
Summary
Start Paladin. Level 8-20 at Amazon Camp. Steamroll Stonerefiners at 35. Always have Stealth Rings. Buy all 7 blessings before level 50. Imbue equipment with Mana Leech and Life Leech. Death is expensive — play carefully.
