Perfect World International Best Class for Beginners Guide
Perfect World International (PWI) has a diverse class roster spanning six races and over a dozen classes. For newcomers, the variety can be overwhelming. This guide covers every class, explains their roles, and recommends the best options for players just starting out.
PWI’s Race and Class System
In PWI, your race determines which classes you can play. You choose a race at character creation, and that locks you into that race’s available classes.
| Race | Available Classes |
|---|---|
| Human | Blademaster, Wizard |
| Winged Elf | Archer, Cleric |
| Untamed | Barbarian, Venomancer |
| Tideborn | Assassin, Psychic |
| Earthguard | Seeker, Mystic |
| Nightshade | Duskblade, Stormbringer |
All Classes Explained
Blademaster (Human)
Role: Melee DPS / Off-Tank A versatile warrior who wields multiple weapon types (axe, sword, fist, polearm). Blademasters can switch combat styles mid-fight and are reliable damage dealers in both PvE and PvP. They have solid survivability and strong AoE damage.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★★★ — Straightforward mechanics, good damage, and resilience make this an excellent first choice.
Wizard (Human)
Role: Ranged DPS (Magic) High burst damage elemental caster. Wizards deal some of the highest single-target damage in the game but are fragile and mana-hungry. Their damage is spectacular at high levels, but they require proper channelling and kiting technique to use effectively.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★☆☆ — High ceiling but punishing to learn; better as a second character.
Archer (Winged Elf)
Role: Ranged Physical DPS Fast-attacking ranged class with consistent damage output. Archers have good mobility, solid single-target DPS, and a mix of regular attacks and bow-based skills. They’re durable enough for beginners and have wings for faster travel.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★★☆ — Very playable from the start; slightly less group demand than Blademaster.
Cleric (Winged Elf)
Role: Healer / Support PWI’s primary healing class. Clerics are essential in group content — every party needs one. They heal, buff, resurrect, and have moderate self-protection. Clerics are always in demand, meaning easy group invitations and consistent value throughout the game.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★★★ — Easy to learn, always wanted in groups, and strong at endgame.
Barbarian (Untamed)
Role: Tank The game’s dedicated tank. Barbarians have the highest HP in the game and can transform into a White Tiger form for enhanced combat. They absorb damage for the party and use taunt abilities to manage threat.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★★☆ — Tanking has a learning curve, but Barbarians are forgiving due to their massive HP pool.
Venomancer (Untamed)
Role: Ranged Magic DPS / Pet Class / Debuffer A unique mix of magic attacks, debuffs, and pet combat. Venomancers tame monsters as pets who fight alongside them. They’re one of the strongest solo classes in the game thanks to their pets, can tank with pets, and provide party debuffs. They also have an exclusive ability to create Tomes of Skill used for sage/demon skills.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★★☆ — Very strong self-sufficiency; pet management adds some complexity.
Assassin (Tideborn)
Role: Melee DPS / Stealth Burst-damage stealth fighter. Assassins deal massive spike damage from stealth and have high single-target kill potential. They’re glass cannon — very fragile if caught outside of stealth.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★☆☆☆ — Requires good positioning and timing; better as a second class.
Psychic (Tideborn)
Role: Ranged Magic DPS / Support Unusual class with water-element spells and a unique “Soul Force” resource. Psychics have good damage and some support capabilities but are a complex class to master.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★☆☆ — Effective but requires learning unique mechanics.
Seeker (Earthguard)
Role: Melee DPS Sword-specialist melee fighter with debuffing capabilities. Seekers have good AoE capabilities and are useful in group content for reducing enemy defences.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★★☆ — Solid and straightforward once you understand debuff chaining.
Mystic (Earthguard)
Role: Support / Healer / Summoner Combines healing, summoning plants for combat, and buff/debuff abilities. Mystics are versatile but not specialists in any single role. They work as backup healers with unique plant summon mechanics.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★☆☆ — Interesting but complex; not as in-demand as Cleric for healing roles.
Duskblade (Nightshade)
Role: Melee DPS High-mobility melee attacker with combo-based attacks. Part of the newer Nightshade race added later in the game’s life.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★☆☆ — Fun to play, less community documentation available.
Stormbringer (Nightshade)
Role: Ranged Magic DPS Lightning-element caster with fast attacks. Strong at burst damage but requires positioning knowledge.
Beginner Friendliness: ★★★☆☆ — Strong DPS but higher skill floor.
Best Classes for Beginners
Top 2 Recommendations:
- Blademaster — Excellent all-rounder with the lowest mechanical complexity. You swing weapons and don’t die. Perfect first class.
- Cleric — Always in demand for groups. You’ll never struggle to find a party. Learning to heal early builds good habits for harder content.
Honourable Mention: Venomancer — excellent solo farming and very self-sufficient; great if you play solo more than with groups.
