What is the Prey System?
The Prey System is an dynamic open-world event that triggers individually for players who spend too much time fighting in high-density Void areas. Think of it like the GTA “Wanted” level, but with cosmic horrors instead of police.
How It Triggers
There are three ways to attract the attention of the Void:
- Mass Killing Void Mobs: Rapidly defeating enemies in Void-corrupted zones (like the Ghostlands rework) builds a hidden “Threat” meter.
- Using Void Magic: Classes that use Void energy (Shadow Priests, Void Elves, Warlocks) generate threat slightly faster.
- Cursed Pickups: Looting specific “Void-Touched” treasures instantly triggers the mechanic.
Once you cross the threshold, you receive the [Mark of the Prey] warning, followed 10 seconds later by the full Manhunt status.
The ‘Manhunt’ Debuff Explained
When the hunt begins, your screen edges will darken, and you’ll gain the Manhunt debuff. This is not just a visual effect; it significantly alters gameplay.
Manhunt Effects:
- Damage Taken Increased: You take 10% more damage from all sources per stack (stacks up to 5 times over time).
- Visibility: Your location is revealed to elite “Void Hunter” NPCs that spawn in the area.

How to Survive (and Remove) the Debuff
You have two options when the Manhunt begins: Run or Fight.
1. The Coward’s Way: Sanctuary
If you’re low on health or gear, your best bet is to reach a designated Sanctuary of Light. These are marked on your mini-map with a gold shield icon. Entering a Sanctuary instantly cleanses the debuff, but you forfeit any bonus rewards.
2. The Hero’s Way: Survive the Timer
If you can survive for 5 minutes without dying or entering a Sanctuary, the Manhunt ends.

- Kill Reward: Killing the Void Hunter drops a Void-Scarred Cache.
Inside the Cache:
- High chance for Void-Touched upgrade tokens (for gear).
- Medium chance for Recipe: Void-Imbued Flasks.
- Low chance for the Shadowstalker mount skin.
