City of Titans: Issue 12 ‘Architects of Tomorrow’ Review

City of Titans, the crowd-funded superhero MMO, has had a rocky road. But “Issue 12” might be the turning point. It introduces two features promised since the Kickstarter: Modular Power Sets and Hideouts.

Modular Power Sets

Instead of just picking “Fire Blast”, you can now customize the origin of the fire.

  • Tech: Fire comes from wrist-mounted flamethrowers. (Adds burn DoT, lowers range).
  • Magic: Fire is summoned runes. (Adds splash damage, higher mana cost).
  • Mutant: Fire is breathed or emitted from skin. (Short range cones, high defense).

This adds a layer of build theory-crafting that surpasses City of Heroes.

Hideouts (Base Building)

Finally, we have housing.

  • You can buy instanced apartments in Titan City or secret caves in the outskirts.
  • Utility: You can place crafting stations, costume editors, and teleporters.
  • Supergroup Bases: Guilds can now buy massive skyscrapers. The editor is clunky (UI needs work), but the freedom is unparalleled.

Performance

The engine update (Unreal 5.4) has fixed the frame rate issues in downtown areas. Flying at super-speed no longer crashes the client.

Verdict: It’s still janky, but it’s our jank. If you miss CoH, this is finally worth the download.
