Aion Classic Stigma System Guide

The Stigma system is one of Aion Classic’s primary character customisation mechanics. Stigma stones are items that grant additional skills when socketed into your character’s Stigma slots. Since every class starts with a fixed base skill set, Stigmas are how you differentiate your character from others of the same class and customise your playstyle.

What Are Stigmas?

A Stigma stone is a magic item bound to a specific class that grants a skill when socketed. Each class has dozens of available Stigma skills, but you can only socket a limited number at once — meaning every Stigma build requires prioritisation.

Stigma skills can be passive bonuses, new active abilities, or upgrades to existing skills. Examples:

  • A Gladiator might socket a Stigma for a new powerful attack skill
  • A Cleric might socket a Stigma for an enhanced group heal
  • A Templar might socket a Stigma for a Stigma that improves Shield Defense

Stigma Slots

At level 10, you receive your first Stigma slot. Additional slots unlock at level milestones:

LevelStigma Slots Available
101 slot
202 slots
303 slots
404 slots
505 slots
556 slots

Higher-level Stigma slots allow High Stigmas (linked Stigma combinations), which are more powerful than standard Stigmas.

Normal Stigmas vs. High Stigmas

Normal Stigmas

Standard Stigma stones that occupy one slot each. They grant one skill or passive effect.

High Stigmas

High Stigmas are more powerful versions that require being chained to compatible Normal Stigmas. A High Stigma takes one dedicated slot, but it also requires specific Normal Stigmas to already be socketed. The connection between Normal Stigmas and their corresponding High Stigma is called a Stigma chain.

Example: A Sorcerer might need to socket “Flame Bolt” (Normal Stigma) before being able to socket “Greater Flame Bolt” or a High Stigma empowered by Flame Bolt’s presence.

At level 55+, most optimised builds use chains of Normal → High Stigmas to access the best combined effects.

How to Socket Stigmas

  1. Visit a Stigma Master (found in major cities like Pandaemonium for Asmodians, Sanctum for Elyos)
  2. Open your Character Sheet and navigate to the Stigma tab
  3. Drag a Stigma stone from your inventory to an open Stigma slot
  4. Pay the Stigma socketing fee in Kinah (the game’s currency)
  5. The skill activates immediately

Important: Unsocketing a Stigma destroys it unless you use a specific preservation method. Plan your build before socketing high-value Stigmas.

Stigma Enhancement

Stigma stones can be enhanced to improve the power of the skill they grant. Enhancement requires Stigma Enchantment Stones, obtained from:

  • Quests and missions
  • The Abyss store (bought with Abyss Points from PvP)
  • Some dungeon drops

Enhancement levels range from +1 to +12 (or higher with advanced stones). Higher enhancement improves:

  • Damage of offensive Stigma skills
  • Healing potency of support Stigma skills
  • Cooldown reduction or additional effects on utility skills

Enhancement can fail at higher levels, and a failed enhancement may reduce the Stigma’s level. Use Manastone Protection items at higher levels to reduce this risk.

Getting Stigma Stones

Stigma stones are obtained from:

Crafting

Some Stigmas can be crafted through the Alchemy or Handicrafting tradeskill.

Drops

Bosses in Aion Classic dungeons (Nochsana Training Camp, Theobomos Laboratory, Beshmundir Temple, etc.) drop class-specific Stigmas.

The Broker (Auction House)

Most Stigmas are tradeable and available on the Broker. For common Stigma builds, buying from the Broker is the fastest way to complete a set.

PvP Store (Abyss Store)

Some high-tier Stigmas require Abyss Points earned through PvP combat in the Abyss zone or Rifting.

Quest Rewards

Certain quest chains in each expansion zone reward Stigma stones as completion bonuses.

Which Stigmas to Prioritise

The optimal Stigma choices depend on your class and role, but general principles apply:

  • Offensive classes (Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer): Prioritise Stigmas that add damage cooldowns or enhance your most-used attack skills
  • Tank classes (Templar, Chanter as off-tank): Prioritise survivability and aggro-management Stigmas; Shield Defense improvements and threat-generating abilities
  • Support/Healer (Cleric, Chanter): Prioritise Stigmas that enhance your heal output, reduce heal cooldowns, or add group support tools

Removing Stigmas

To remove a Stigma from a slot without destroying it:

  • Use a Stigma Removal Stone (sold by some vendors, dropped in higher content)
  • Alternatively, visit the Stigma Master and pay a fee — but by default, removing a Stigma destroys it

If you’re early in the game, don’t worry too much about losing common Stigmas; they’re cheap to replace. Save Removal Stones for expensive or rare Stigmas you want to reassign.

Tips

  1. Plan your Stigma chain before socketing — High Stigma requirements can force specific Normal Stigmas
  2. Check prices on the Broker before farming Stigmas — many are cheaper to buy than to farm
  3. Enhance Stigmas gradually — don’t burn all Enchantment Stones on one Stigma at once
  4. Keep backup Stigmas for different content types (PvP vs. PvE often use different Stigma sets)
  5. Don’t socket a Stigma that doesn’t fit your playstyle just because it has high numbers — use what you’ll actually use
